The unfortunate truth of owning and running a business.

Running a business is really hard.

What they don’t tell you is that it can cause severe stress and anxiety, and drains you mentally to the point of depression in even the most laid back people.

People will talk about you, compare you to others, use you, they will view you as a service and not a person anymore.

Friends and family will expect discounts and people will value you and your hard work less than a big chain store.

You have to worry about if you forget to email/message or call someone back, are they going to think it was on purpose? Did you disappoint them? Will they hold that against you? When in reality you just can’t get to everyone’s messages, emails and phone calls.

Starting up and running a successful business puts incredible strain on personal lives and relationships, many of which fail because there is just often no work life balance. You need to be the director, the worker, the admin, the marketing team, the accountant, the cleaner... All while being a parent, a husband or a wife, family support, friend... it’s one of the hardest things you will try and balance. If you give your time, you will sacrifice financial benefit. If you strive for financial benefit, you will have to sacrifice your time. It’s just the way it goes when your business is relying on you to survive and you’re relying on your business to provide!

There’s a reason you don’t see many people succeed in small businesses after 5 years. If they are successful they are overwhelmed. It takes a toll. It’s freaking exhausting. Especially the past couple of years when so much has been out of our control.

Here’s a small reminder that we are just normal people with hectic lives. Be kind, be patient, support small businesses... and hopefully more of us will stick around!

📌If you are thinking about selling your property, it’s now mandatory to supply a valid Electric Fence Certificate of Compliance (EFCOC) before your property transfer can be concluded.
📌​And if you’ve had your electric fence installed by people from your local hardware store ... you’ve got good reason to worry.

📌While most homeowners know that an electrical certificate of compliance (EFCOC) is required by law through a registered engineer when a new property is built, many do not realise the laws and regulations that are associated with installing electric fencing around their property.

📌According to new regulations and by-laws, homeowners having their electric fence altered, having a new one installed, or selling their property must have an electric fence COC.

⚠️However, there is a big problem in South Africa—and its unlicensed, cheap electricians.
With 1,3 million house breakings reported between 2018/2019 the use of electric fencing to secure both commercial and residential property has grown exponentially.

⚠️With many security companies, jumping on the bandwagon homeowners are conned by dubious operators that offer cheap installations that are far from compliant.
An unlicensed installation is not only criminal, but it’s also dangerous—to your family, your home, your neighbours, and outsiders passing by.

⚠️When load shedding kicks in, it's important to make sure that your electric fence still continues to work - for this to happen, your home or complex needs to have a back-up battery installed and working at all times.

⚠️A good quality, rechargeable battery can keep your electric fence active for 8-10 hours after the lights go out and as an extra precaution, your batteries need to be checked to see that they are in perfect working order.
⚠️Frequent surges, (such as electricity being switched on and off) as we have been experiencing all too often, can take a serious toll on your back-up battery.
⚠️So it does need to be tested and replaced if necessary, to ensure that you don’t get caught out when the next outage strikes.
