MAYORS CHRISTMAS MESSAGE
Fellow People of Ikwezi:

Today is Christmas. Yet, unlike many other Christmas days we have had before, this year we celebrate the festive season and in particular Christmas days shortly after the mourning of our beloved Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
His writing and actions will continue to inspire democracy, peace, justice, equality, non-sexism and non-racialism across ages; may his soul rest in peace.
Despite this somber mood enveloping our nation at this point, I would like to wish one and all a Merry and peaceful Christmas on behalf of Ikwezi Council.

The past year has been a year of many challenges. as we celebrate this holiday season, I hope we will continue to spend time with family and friends. Let us use this time to reflect and count our blessings. The greatest gift we could exchange this season is to serve one another. May I ask you all to remember your neighbors at this time of year, especially the elderly and those who live alone- I would also like to extend a special welcome to those who have come home to Ikwezi to be with their families and hope that you have a wonderful time.
While Christmas is a joyful time for most of us I will be thinking of those who are struggling over Christmas, Let us also console those who have unfortunately lost family members and friends through natural and unnatural causes during the course of the year. And those who have lost loved ones or who are suffering because of illness or poverty. My thoughts and prayers will be with them over this difficult time and I would encourage everyone to look out for those less fortunate as ourselves over this festive period, particularly the elderly or those who are vulnerable in our community, and extend a festive welcome.

We strive to create employment and improve the living conditions of South Africans in the firm knowledge that our vision of a united, non-racial, non-sexist, just and democratic society is predicated on prosperity. For us to break the cycle of poverty among our people we need to work harder and smarter, with single-mindedness, to lift our country onto the higher plane of hope and optimism.

During this season of goodwill let us also not indulge in substance and alcohol abuse. Equally, let us all avoid physical violence at all costs.
I wish to thank everybody in our municipal area, district and province: in government, civil society, and business, for the work they did this year to ensure that we succeed. Special thanks to those who are engaged in essential services, who have to work day and night to protect us and care for us: Members of the armed forces who serve our country with loyalty and selflessness; Health professionals and workers who care for the sick and do their best to promote a healthy nation; traffic officers and other law enforcement agencies who are doing their job under testing conditions to make our country safe; refuse removers and all those who render emergency services.

Above all, give yourselves a loving hug for being such good South Africans.

I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
I thank you.
