Willowvale, it’s your turn! Only one more unit game remains before the exciting Mayor’s Cup 2026 grand finale.

After a successful and thrilling game in Dutywa, Mbhashe Local Municipality is now gearing up for the next fixture set to take place on Saturday, 30 May 2026.

The Mayor’s Cup tournament continues to celebrate sport, community spirit and local talent, with wards across Mbhashe competing proudly to represent their communities on the road to the finals.

Supporters and community members are encouraged to come out in large numbers to support their teams and be part of the excitement as the tournament continues.

Handover of colour-coded bins and trees to Ncihana and Gwebindlala J.S.S during the Recycling Awareness programme. This will help promote proper waste separation, encourage recycling habits among learners, and contribute towards creating greener and healthier school environments.

Learners also received school packages as part of the programme, further supporting and motivating them to take part in environmental activities.

Representatives from the Amathole District Municipality, Department of Education and the Department of Fisheries, Forestry and Environment (DFFE) were also in attendance to support the initiative and encourage environmental awareness among learners.

Demonstrating a shared commitment to promote conserving the environment and waste recycling in schools, Polyco in collaboration with the Mbhashe Local Municipality is currently conducting a recycling workshop on waste management and environmental awareness at Ncihana and Gwebindla J.S.S in Elliotdale today.

Under the theme “School Recycling Activation”, this initiative aims to educate and encourage learners to actively participate in recycling waste, reduce pollution and maintain clean surroundings.

Mbhashe Local Municipality Councillors, Traditional Leaders, Community Development Workers and Public Participation officials are currently attending a Stakeholder Engagement and Education Support Session, held in collaboration with the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA).

The session is chaired by Cllr Thobela Nodliwa and facilitated by COGTA Chief Director: Municipal Public Participation, Integrated Developmental Planning, Rapid Response and Stakeholder Engagement, Mr Mboniswa Nodlabi. Discussions are focused on strengthening public participation, improving stakeholder relations and reviewing guidelines on the election and establishment of ward committees.

These interactive engagements with COGTA, continue to strengthen cooperative governance and community development support across our communities.

Polyco in collaboration with Mbhashe Local Municipality will be hosting a School Recycling Activation Campaign and handover of colour-coded bins to Ncihana J.S.S and Gwebindla J.S.S on Thursday, 28 May 2026.

The initiative aims to educate and encourage learners to practise proper waste management and environmental responsibility. It seeks to promote recycling habits within schools, reduce pollution, create cleaner learning environments and raise awareness about the importance of protecting the environment for future generations.

The campaign will also empower learners to become ambassadors of sustainability within their schools and communities, encouraging positive environmental practices that contribute to a cleaner and healthier society.
