Tata Madiba lies in hospital in a critical state of health as we all know. Hard to imagine he will one day no longer be part of the physical world...it almost seems impossible actually. That will be a sad day indeed, a day that we do not wish to see. Needless to say he is in our thoughts every day.
Tata epitomizes the spirit, the hope, the courage, the wisdom, the grace and the intelligence of the inspirational people of South Africa (be they well-known or regular) that andulela likes to share with its guests...Let us acknowledge those with us today and let Tata remind us every day of what we are capable of.
Thank you to all our hosts for being part of the andulela network and for sharing their real-life stories with us and with visitors.

This week andulela participated in a seminar on sustainability in tourism run by UK expert, Chris Thompson. There were approximately 30 companies present and the two days flew by! We walked away with some wonderful tools to continue our contribution to sustainable tourism and tools to evaluate (from an international context) and improve these. May there be many more of us who see it as indispensable as apposed to an optional extra, nice to have or merely a marketing tool. Vive sustainable tourism and each small step that makes the bigger picture!

andulela will be at Indaba again this year! We hope to have the opportunity to update our clients on the latest moves of andulela! Food and cooking, our first love in facilitating real cultural experiences, is top of our list again!

Yesterday our intern Sanne went back home to the Netherlands. We hope she has arrived well and safely. And that her home town has as much sunshine as Cape Town to welcome her back home. andulela volunteered to co-ordinate a day for a wonderful American couple from New York, Nancy and Zeke, who are travelling a few selected countries around the world doing art sessions with youth.
We took them to meet two groups of scholars from two different areas of Cape Town. One was from Blomvlei Primary School in Hanover Park (supported by TCD) and the other was a group of young ladies of a local Marimba group from Hout Bay.
The objective of the day was to have an art session with the youth and this included a short fun educational session of geography and information on New York. The artwork of the scholars left with Nancy and Zeke and will be exhibited in New York to conclude their wonderful initiative to create a cross-cultural art exchange project. The art exhibition will be held in September at the end of their travels and offers a platform not only for the children’s artwork but for the upliftment projects of both groups.

We are also very excited to say that andulela’s suggestion of a phase two to the project has met with approval by TCD. Phase two is for andulela together with TCD to create an art exchange programme locally between different communities of Cape Town and Blomvlei Primary School. Watch this space for more exciting opportunities of building cross-cultural bridges right here back home…

New Yorkers Nancy and Zeke visited Blomvlei Library as part of their Art Project initiating a world cultural exchange through Art by primary school children across the globe and multi-cultural communities. This venture will end in an Art Exhibition to be held in New York in September 2012.Thank you ...
