On Youth Representation.
The PEC engaged on youth representatives and representation in all sphere of government and other administrative structures. It therefore resolved that it must have equal meaningful representation in the administration of Mpumalanga provincial Government particularly in respect of MEC’s, Senior Management and other strategic position. For the longest time young people have been reduced to mere torch bearers, cheerleaders of tired eldership and support staff in the form of PA,s and PLO,s etc. We demand a meaningful role!!!
In line with the idea of generational mix, the PEC meeting resolved the ANCYL Mpumalanga Province will unapologetically support a youthful front as the future of the Congress movement. In the spirit of “nothing about us without us” we have also taken a staunch stand not to support ideas that don’t consider or have the best interest of young people at heart. The PEC resolved that it will support a young person to form part of the NEC of the ANC. The meeting also decided to swiftly agitate for a Youth Summit which seeks to resuscitate youth activism particularly within the Progressive Youth Alliance in Mpumalanga.
On Youth Development and Empowerment
The PEC has learnt with shock, utter embarrassment and dismay of the circulating information on the non-spending of the Youth Development Fund by the Office of Premier ,unfortunately this occurs whilst the rate of unemployment has reached a devastating level in the province; the PEC view this act as a deliberate effort to undermine young people in the province; as the PEC we call for the Premier or her office to provide a clear explanation on what had transpired and what are the remedial measures that are to be done in ensuring that this budget is spent properly and the intended beneficiaries (young people) are empowered.
This should be done in conjunction with a prompt appointment of a qualified Young Provincial Youth Director in the Office of the Premier, who possesses the necessary skills, knowledge and expertise and comprehend with the immediate ills that requires urgent attention.
On Organisational Programs & Advance to Economic Freedom The ANCYL of Mpumalanga remains united behind the Freedom Charter and the implementation of its objectives. We call upon all structures to respond to the call for Economic Freedom in our Lifetime. It is in the collective will of the province that we will host a series of marches directed to the corridors of power including the private sector demanding employment and economic opportunities for all young people in our province, this will be done as a practical program to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the ANCYL and as part of advancing and championing the interests of young people.
On Organizational Development and Recruitment
The PEC calls on all members to continuously ensure that they renew their membership, calls upon all branch secretaries and those in leadership to avoid a culture of gate-keeping, divisions, patronage, membership manipulation and institutionalised factionalism that has since deeply entrenched itself in our movement but rather allow all young people between the ages of 14-35 years to join their movement.
