⚠️ *Environmental Concern: Bravecto (Fluralaner) and Dung Beetles*

The active ingredient in *Bravecto* — *Fluralaner* — is excreted in the faeces of treated dogs and cats as a *highly active and persistent substance*.

This means that dog faeces left in natural areas may not only be unpleasant — it may also pose a *serious ecological risk*.

🪲 *Why this matters:*

Dung beetles that ingest contaminated faeces can suffer:

• *Direct mortality*
• *Reduced reproduction and larval development*
• *Long-term population decline*

Even small concentrations can negatively affect these insects because Fluralaner is specifically designed to disrupt the nervous systems of parasites and insects.

🌱 *The broader ecological impact:*

Dung beetles play a critical role in:

• breaking down animal waste
• recycling nutrients into the soil
• aerating soil
• reducing pest populations

When dung beetle populations are harmed, the effects can ripple through the broader ecosystem and negatively impact soil health and natural nutrient cycling.

⏳ *Importantly:*
Bravecto remains active in an animal’s system for *up to 12 weeks*, meaning residues in faeces may remain harmful long after treatment.

❗ This makes it even more important that dog owners *pick up and properly dispose of dog faeces*, especially in sensitive natural environments such as Fernkloof.

Reminder: please adhere to Fernkloof signage indicating where dogs can and cannot walk.
