Day 3 of the SANMVA 2nd Elective Conference continues with unity, purpose, and meaningful engagement as military veterans from across South Africa deliberate on issues affecting their welfare, leadership, and future.

Today also marked a historic and emotional moment with the official recognition of the South African Cape Corps Military Veterans Association (SACCMVA), receiving a standing ovation from fellow veterans and delegates.

As the organisation prepares to elect new leadership, the spirit of comradeship, honour, and service remains at the centre of the conference.

The Department of Military Veterans, in support of its constituency of Military Veterans, is today, 11 May 2026, participating in the 191st commemoration of the life of uKumkani Hintsa, Aaahh Zanzolo!

Part of the build-up activities towards the main commemoration on 12 May 2026 includes a memorial lecture, during which Military Veterans from uMkhonto weSizwe and APLA were honoured with King Hintsa Commemoration Medals for their bravery and contribution to the liberation of our country.

This honour is bestowed upon Military Veterans in remembrance of uKumkani Hintsa’s courage in protecting his people and sacrificing himself in their defence. His bravery remains indelibly etched in the hearts and minds of the people of South Africa.

uKumkani Vulikhaya thanked Military Veterans for carrying forward the baton from King Hintsa, emphasising that he holds all Military Veterans in high regard hence, he honoured them equally with the same number of medals.

Heartwarming celebrations, poetry, and cultural songs filled Butterworth College as Military Veterans and members of the community united in praise, acknowledging and honouring those who contributed to the liberation struggle through this memorial lecture.
