Hartenbos Conservancy

Hartenbos Conservancy Forming part of the ATKV of Hartenbos, the Hartenbos Conservancy serves to protect the fauna and flora of which surrounds the estuary and coastal area.

Otherwise known as the 'nursery of the sea', estuaries form a very important part of our ecosystem as they serve as a safe zone for our local and migratory birds/sea life. High concentrations of nutrients are able to grow due to the combination of both salt and fresh water, allowing all sorts of flora to blossom. Each year the Hartenbos Conservancy has a different ranger on site who is responsible

for production of the local newsletter and report. In addition, the ranger is to fulfill duties at the Hartenbos estuary which may include; species identification, educational outreaches (beach clean-ups), community awareness, estuary research and assuring that conservation practices around the Hartenbos estuary and coast are active. The Ranger of 2015 is Caitlin Marshall and may be contacted for any further queries or complaints.

During the last month of May 2015, Laerskool Hartenbos joined myself (ranger of Hartenbos Conservancy) and Pinnacle Conservation for a fun morning of education and ending off with a beach clean-up.
White Shark Africa, Fransmanshoek, Pieter Van Reenen, Pinnacle Puppets and Seevader where our visitors for the day, where they educated the children on the importance of recycling, sealife and other environmental aspects.

The day was exciting and fun and Pick 'n Pay were so kind as to sponsor the day with cooldrink!
The children all left with big smiles on their faces but most importantly an awareness of conservation!
