Die VF Plus stel met trots adv. Gert van Niekerk as die party se burgemeesterskandidaat vir George voor – ’n ervare munisipale leier, regsgeleerde en huidige uitvoerende onderburgemeester wat reeds sedert 2016 ’n aktiewe rol in die George-munisipaliteit speel.

Gert is ’n LLB-gegradueerde en lid van die Regspraktyksraad van Suid-Afrika. Hy is sedert 2016 VF Plus-raadslid in George en is tans die party se leier in George sowel as die Tuinroete-distrik.

Sy ervaring in plaaslike regering strek oor verskeie sleutelportefeuljes. Hy het onder meer gedien as voorsitter van die regskomitee en die GIPTN Artikel 79-komitee, as ondervoorsitter van die Munisipale Finansiële Oorsigkomitee en as lid van komitees vir siviele ingenieursdienste, elektrotegniese dienste en stedelike ontwikkeling.

Gert dien tans as uitvoerende onderburgemeester van George en het oor die afgelope dekade uitgebreide kennis en ervaring van munisipale bestuur opgebou – van finansiële toesig en infrastruktuur tot stedelike ontwikkeling en die verantwoordelike toepassing van wetgewing.

Gert se benadering tot plaaslike regering is eenvoudig: ’n raadslid moet beskikbaar, betrokke en bereid wees om inwoners se probleme daadwerklik aan te pak.

As inwonende raadslid van Wyk 18 het hy hom daarop toegespits om die belange van die wyk en sy inwoners in die raadsaal te verteenwoordig. Hy het hom oor die jare gevestig as ’n proaktiewe raadslid vir wie geen probleem te klein is om aandag te geniet nie.

Sy bereikbaarheid is vir hom net so belangrik. Gert het hom daartoe verbind om vir inwoners beskikbaar te wees wanneer hulle hulp nodig het en om te verseker dat hul stem binne die munisipaliteit gehoor word.

Gert se jarelange ervaring in die raad, sy regsagtergrond en sy huidige verantwoordelikhede as uitvoerende onderburgemeester plaas hom in ’n sterk posisie om leiding te neem en die uitdagings van ’n groeiende stad doelgerig aan te pak.

The VF Plus proudly introduces Adv. Gert van Niekerk as the party’s mayoral candidate for George – an experienced municipal leader, legal professional and current Executive Deputy Mayor who has played an active role in the George Municipality since 2016.

Gert holds an LLB degree and is a member of the Legal Practice Council of South Africa. He has served as a VF Plus councillor in George since 2016 and is currently the party’s leader in George as well as the Garden Route District.

His local government experience spans several key portfolios. He has served, among others, as Chairperson of the Legal Committee and the GIPTN Section 79 Committee, Deputy Chairperson of the Municipal Financial Oversight Committee, and as a member of committees responsible for civil engineering services, electrotechnical services and urban development.

Gert currently serves as Executive Deputy Mayor of George and has built up extensive knowledge and experience in municipal governance over the past decade – ranging from financial oversight and infrastructure to urban development and the responsible application of legislation.

Accessibility is equally important to him. Gert has committed himself to being available to residents when they need assistance and to ensuring that their voices are heard within the municipality.

Danie Acker, die provinsiale voorsitter van die VF Plus in die Wes-Kaap het vandag die party se eerste nege burgemeesterskandidate vir die munisipale verkiesing van 4 November aangekondig.

Die kandidate is:

• Danie Acker – Mosselbaai: Prokureur, gemeenskaps- en sakeleier en ervare raadslid met ’n sterk fokus op deursigtige, verantwoordelike en bekostigbare regering.

• Johan Allers – Groter Oudtshoorn: Voormalige Burgemeester en Speaker en ervare raadslid met ’n sterk fokus op finansiële dissipline, ontwikkeling en verantwoordelike bestuur.

• Adv. Gert van Niekerk – George: Ervare raadslid en huidige uitvoerende onderburgemeester van George met ’n bewese rekord in plaaslike regering en koalisiebestuur.

• Chris White – Matzikama: Senior raadslid, sakeman en argitek met sowat 40 jaar ervaring en besondere kundigheid in tegniese dienste en infrastruktuur.

• Cuan Elgin – Overstrand: Ervare raadslid en belastingbetaleraktivis met ’n sterk rekord van munisipale toesig, veiligheid en die beskerming van belastingbetalers se belange.

• Erika Botha-Rossouw – Kaapstad: Ervare stadsraadslid met tien jaar diens en ’n sterk fokus op toesig, verantwoordbare besteding en die belange van inwoners en belastingbetalers.

• Gerhard Vermeulen – Swartland en Weskus-distriksmunisipaliteit: Ervare raadslid en portefeuljevoorsitter met meer as 30 jaar ervaring in plaaslike regering.

• Johnny Steenkamp – Langeberg: Ervare raadslid en voormalige onderburgemeester wat 40 jaar senior bestuurservaring uit die korporatiewe wêreld na plaaslike regering bring.

• Pierre du Toit – Drakenstein: Gemeenskapsgerigte kandidaat wat sterk klem plaas op daadwerklike dienslewering, verantwoordelike besteding en ’n munisipale regering wat na inwoners luister.

Acker sê hierdie is nie bloot nege name op ’n kandidaatlys nie. Dit is mense met ervaring in plaaslike regering, die reg, sakebestuur, infrastruktuur, finansiële bestuur, gemeenskapsorganisasies en openbare toesig.

Die VF Plus se boodskap aan kiesers in die Wes-Kaap is eenvoudig: ’n Sterker VF Plus beteken sterker plaaslike regering.

Die VF Plus het reeds bewys dat hy verantwoordelik kan regeer en konstruktief in koalisies kan saamwerk. Waar geen party ná 4 November alleen ’n meerderheid het nie, wil die VF Plus sterk genoeg wees om te verseker dat koalisies op goeie regering, bekostigbaarheid, dienslewering en verantwoordbaarheid gebou word – nie op poste, politieke eiebelang en geheimhouding nie.

Inwoners en belastingbetalers moet weer eerste kom. Munisipale tariewe moet bekostigbaar wees, openbare geld moet verantwoordelik bestee word en rade moet deursigtig regeer.

Basiese dienste en infrastruktuur moet werk, en raadslede moet verantwoordbaar wees teenoor die gemeenskappe wat hulle verkies.

Ons burgemeesterskandidate verteenwoordig hierdie benadering.
Die VF Plus gaan in die komende dae burgemeesterskandidate vir elke munisipaliteit en kandidate in elke wyk in die provinsie en veldtoginisiatiewe regoor die Wes-Kaap bekendstel.

Op 4 November vra ons kiesers om die VF Plus sterker te maak, sodat ons die Wes-Kaap se dorpe en stede beter kan maak en stabiliteit kan verseker.

Danie Acker, the provincial chairperson of the VF Plus in the Western Cape, today announced the party’s first nine mayoral candidates for the municipal elections on 4 November.

The candidates are:

* Danie Acker – Mossel Bay: Attorney, community and business leader, and experienced councillor with a strong focus on transparent, accountable and affordable governance.

* Johan Allers – Greater Oudtshoorn: Former mayor and speaker and experienced councillor with a strong focus on financial discipline, development and responsible governance.

* Adv. Gert van Niekerk – George: Experienced councillor and current executive deputy mayor of George with a proven track record in local government and coalition governance.

* Chris White – Matzikama: Senior councillor, businessman and architect with approximately 40 years of experience and extensive expertise in technical services and infrastructure.

* Erika Botha-Rossouw – Cape Town: Experienced city councillor with ten years of service and a strong focus on oversight, accountable spending and the interests of residents and ratepayers.

* Gerhard Vermeulen – Swartland and West Coast District Municipality: Experienced councillor and portfolio chairperson with more than 30 years of experience in local government.

* Johnny Steenkamp – Langeberg: Experienced councillor and former deputy mayor who brings 40 years of senior management experience from the corporate world to local government.

* Pierre du Toit – Drakenstein: Community-focused candidate who places a strong emphasis on effective service delivery, responsible spending and a municipal government that listens to residents.

Acker says these are not merely nine names on a candidate list. They are people with experience in local government, law, business management, infrastructure, financial management, community organisations and public oversight.

The VF Plus’s message to voters in the Western Cape is simple: A stronger VF Plus means stronger local government.

The VF Plus has already demonstrated that it can govern responsibly and work constructively in coalitions. Where no party secures an outright majority after 4 November, the VF Plus wants to be strong enough to ensure that coalitions are built on good governance, affordability, service delivery and accountability – not positions, political self-interest and secrecy.

Residents and ratepayers must once again come first. Municipal tariffs must be affordable, public funds must be spent responsibly and councils must govern transparently. Basic services and infrastructure must work, and councillors must be accountable to the communities that elected them.

In the coming days, the VF Plus will announce mayoral candidates for every municipality and candidates in every ward in the province, while also rolling out campaign initiatives across the Western Cape.

Die VF Plus George se bestuur, kandidate, lede en ondersteuners het Saterdag, 5 September, ’n uiters suksesvolle sigbaarheidsaksie in George gehou.

Tydens die aksie is VF Plus George se eie, unieke pamflet met die party se 10-puntplan vir beter, verantwoordbare en doeltreffende plaaslike regering bekendgestel en aan inwoners uitgedeel.

Die 10-puntplan fokus op dit wat vir inwoners saak maak: ’n munisipaliteit wat sy kernverantwoordelikhede nakom, openbare geld verantwoordelik bestuur, na inwoners luister en volhoubare dienslewering vooropstel.

Die VF Plus is tydens die sigbaarheidsaksie besonder positief deur die publiek ontvang. Inwoners het spontaan kom gesels, hul ondersteuning uitgespreek en met vriendelike woorde, handdrukke, glimlagte en aanmoediging gewys dat daar ’n groeiende behoefte aan ’n sterk politieke alternatief in George is.

Vir die VF Plus gaan politiek nie bloot oor beloftes nie. Dit gaan daaroor om tussen die mense te wees, te luister na wat in woonbuurte en gemeenskappe gebeur en met werkbare oplossings vorendag te kom.

Die entoesiasme en ondersteuning wat ons Saterdag ervaar het, spoor ons net verder aan.

The VF Plus George management team, candidates, members and supporters held a highly successful visibility campaign in George on Saturday, 5 September.

During the campaign, VF Plus George launched and distributed its own unique pamphlet outlining the party’s 10-point plan for better, accountable and effective local government.

The 10-point plan focuses on what matters to residents: a municipality that fulfils its core responsibilities, manages public funds responsibly, listens to residents and places sustainable service delivery at the forefront.

The VF Plus received an exceptionally positive response from the public during the campaign. Residents spontaneously stopped to chat, expressed their support and, through friendly words, handshakes, smiles and encouragement, showed that there is a growing demand for a strong political alternative in George.

For the VF Plus, politics is not simply about making promises. It is about being present in communities, listening to what is happening in neighbourhoods and finding practical solutions to the challenges residents face.

The enthusiasm and support we experienced on Saturday only motivate us to work even harder.

Our message to George is clear: Residents deserve a municipality that works, a government that listens and representatives who put them first.

Mynard Slabbert is 'n voormalige onderburgemeester en tot vóór sy bedanking 'n wykraadslid.

Siegfried Schäfer was 'n proporsionele raadslid.

Ons is dankbaar vir die waardevolle plaaslike regeringskennis en ervaring wat hulle na die VF Plus bring. Dit sal tot groot voordeel van die party en die gemeenskap wees.

Hul besluit om by ons aan te sluit, is ’n bewys van die groeiende vertroue in die VF Plus se benadering tot verantwoordelike, deursigtige en aanspreeklike plaaslike regering.

Die VF Plus doen ’n dringende beroep op die polisie en George se munisipale wetstoepassingsdienste om sigbaarheid en patrollies by die Tuinroetedam onmiddellik te verhoog.

Die dam is ’n gewilde ontspanningsgebied waar inwoners en besoekers stap, draf en fietsry. Die jongste voorval, waarin ’n 22-jarige vrou van agter genader en om die nek gegryp is terwyl sy alleen na haar voertuig gestap het, beklemtoon die ernstige veiligheidsrisiko’s in die gebied.

Verskeie voorvalle die afgelope tyd toon dat die huidige sigbaarheid onvoldoende is. Die VF Plus versoek dat patrollies by die dam en omliggende roetes verhoog word en dat alle voorvalle deurlopend aangemeld word sodat misdaadpatrone geïdentifiseer en aangespreek kan word.

Die oplossing kan egter nie wees dat mense uit vrees wegbly van die dam nie. Wanneer inwoners openbare ruimtes vermy, word dit juis makliker vir misdadigers om dit oor te neem.

Besoekers word eerder aangemoedig om verantwoordelik op te tree, waar moontlik in groepe te beweeg en waaksaam te bly.

Toerisme is ’n belangrike steunpilaar van George se ekonomie en ondersteun talle ondernemings en werksgeleenthede.

Die dorp kan nie bekostig dat ’n waardevolle toerisme- en ontspanningsgebied ’n reputasie van onveiligheid ontwikkel nie.

Die VF Plus vra dat alle rolspelers saamwerk om die Tuinroetedam veiliger te maak sodat inwoners en besoekers dit met groter gemoedsrus kan geniet.

Freedom Front Plus regional leader: Garden Route

The Freedom Front Plus (VF Plus) implores the police and George’s municipal law-enforcement services to immediately increase visibility and patrols at the Garden Route Dam.

The Dam is a popular recreational area where residents and visitors hike, jog and cycle. The latest incident, in which a 22-year-old woman was approached from behind and grabbed around the neck while walking to her vehicle alone, highlights the serious safety risks in the area.

Several similar incidents have occurred recently, demonstrating that there is currently not enough law-enforcement visibility. The Freedom Front Plus requests more patrols at the Dam and on nearby routes, and that all incidents be reported so that crime patterns can be identified and addressed.

People avoiding the Dam out of fear is not a solution to the problem. When residents withdraw from public spaces, it is easier for criminals to take over.

Instead, visitors are encouraged to be responsible, move around in groups, if possible, and remain vigilant.

Tourism is one of the cornerstones of George’s economy, sustaining numerous businesses and job opportunities.

The town cannot afford to have a valuable tourism and recreational area become notorious for being unsafe.

The Freedom Front Plus calls on all role players to work together to ensure that the Garden Route Dam area is safe so residents and visitors can enjoy it with peace of mind.

Suid-Afrika sal nie sy handelsmark, beleggings en ekonomiese groei volhoubaar kan herstel indien die land se plaaslike regering nie dringend herstel word nie.

Munisipaliteite moet ekonomiese enjins wees en nie remskoene nie.
