ANC THANKS THE PEOPLE OF WARD 5

The African National Congress in the Victor Molosi Region extends its sincere appreciation to the residents of Ward 5 in Oudtshoorn for their active participation in the recent by-election. We further salute the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, leaders, and supporters who advanced the campaign with discipline and resilience under challenging conditions.

Most importantly, we thank the community of Ward 5 for their growing confidence in the ANC and their continued commitment to democratic participation.

The results of this by-election mark a significant and encouraging political milestone. From 405 votes in 2021 and 400 in 2024, the ANC has grown to 764 votes in 2026—an increase of nearly 89%. This remarkable progress reflects a renewed trust in the ANC and a clear signal that the people of Ward 5 are embracing a future anchored in integrity, stability, and people-centred governance.

We commend our candidate for demonstrating strength, focus, and principled leadership throughout the campaign. This was not merely an electoral contest, but a vital step in rebuilding relationships, restoring confidence, and reaffirming the ANC’s role as a trusted partner of the community.

To our volunteers and activists, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your tireless efforts, honest engagement with residents, and steadfast commitment to the values of the movement have been instrumental in achieving this growth. You have carried the message of renewal with conviction and clarity.

The ANC remains resolute in its mission to strengthen its structures, deepen community engagement, and work collaboratively with the people of Ward 5 to address challenges and unlock opportunities for development.
As we look ahead to the upcoming Local Government Elections, we are encouraged by the growing momentum. The ANC will intensify its efforts on the ground to ensure that this progress translates into a decisive victory and sustainable change for all residents.

ANC CONDEMNS THE CIRCULATION OF A VIDEO ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The ANC in the Victor Molosi Region strongly condemns the circulation of a video showing a teacher filming learners in a classroom during what was referred to as “Pie Day.” In the video, one child is seen without a pie while other learners are eating.

This incident raises serious concerns about the conduct of the teacher and the treatment of learners in the classroom. Filming and highlighting a child in such circumstances is irresponsible and may amount to humiliation and a violation of the child’s dignity and rights.

This action has caused serious uproar within the community and has angered many residents, who are now calling for accountability and appropriate consequences for both the teacher involved and the school.

In a society already facing deep levels of poverty and social challenges, actions that embarrass or single out a child are unacceptable. Schools must remain safe and supportive spaces that protect the dignity and well-being of every learner.

The National Government introduced the National School Nutrition Programme to ensure that learners receive meals at school, addressing the social welfare needs of children while promoting dignity and equality among all learners.

We therefore call on the Department of Education in the Eden and Central Karoo District to act swiftly in addressing this matter. We also urge the Principal of Thembalethu Primary School to take immediate steps, including the precautionary suspension of the teacher pending a full and fair investigation.

Furthermore, we call on the Department of Education to ensure that the learner involved receives proper psychological support to safeguard their well-being.

ANC Victor Molosi Region Concerned About Targeting of Councillors.

The ANC in the Victor Molosi Region notes with serious concern what appears to be a coordinated effort by opposition parties to weaken the organisation by targeting its councillors and influencing them to resign.

The most recent incident involves the resignation of Ward 25 councillor, Jarques Esau, in the George Municipality. The ANC became aware of Councillor Esau’s resignation through social media, without any formal communication or explanation provided to the movement.

We view this development as part of a broader political strategy aimed at destabilising the ANC in the region as preparations intensify for the upcoming local government electoral processes. It is increasingly evident that the Democratic Alliance, facing mounting political pressure, is resorting to questionable tactics in an attempt to retain control. Recent election outcomes in George, where the DA lost three wards to the Patriotic Alliance , demonstrate the shifting political landscape and the vulnerability of the opposition.

Despite these challenges, the ANC remains resolute in its commitment to serving the people of George and the broader Victor Molosi Region. We call on communities to remain vigilant and to reject political opportunism and the selfish conduct of any public representatives who place personal interests above community needs.

The ANC further calls on all residents to defend their democratic rights by actively participating in the forthcoming by-election. Residents who have not yet registered are urged to do so, and those who have relocated to Ward 25 are encouraged to update their voter registration details without delay.

ANC Victor Molosi Region Demands Retraction and Apology from News24 for Inaccurate Reporting

The African National Congress in the Victor Molosi Region calls on News24 to retract and issue a public apology for inaccurate reporting regarding a Special Council Meeting of the Knysna Municipality held on 28 January 2026.
In its article, News24 states that ANC councillors voted in favour of senior managers receiving upper-limit remuneration packages. This is false and misrepresents the position taken by the ANC in Council.

During the Special Council Meeting, an item was introduced by the Municipal Manager concerning the upper limits of total remuneration packages for Municipal Managers and managers directly accountable to Municipal Managers for the 2025/2026 financial year.
A councillor from the Knysna Independent Movement proposed that the item be removed and resubmitted with sufficient supporting information. This proposal was seconded by a councillor from the PA

On behalf of the ANC, Councillor Aubrey Tsengwa clearly presented the ANC’s position, stating that the ANC does not support the item. This position was based on the serious financial challenges currently facing the municipality, as well as the fact that Council had just received a report from Internal Auditors highlighting the non-performance of managers.

The item did not succeed. Two KIM councillors registered their votes against, and the ANC’s position to not support the item was ultimately carried by a majority vote.

It is therefore deeply concerning that News24 reported the opposite, as this misleads the public and distorts the official record of Council proceedings.

The ANC Victor Molosi Region demands that News24: to retract the incorrect claim that ANC councillors supported the item, and issue a public apology and correction with the same prominence as the original article.

The public deserves accurate and responsible reporting, especially on matters of governance and public accountability.
