SASCO NMU GEORGE BRANCH GENERAL MEETING FEEDBACK

The South African Students Congress NMU George Branch successfully convened its Branch General Meeting on the 3rd of September 2026 at the Rec Centre.

The BGM was a resounding success with high turnout and active participation from members. The Rec Centre venue worked well to accommodate the big number of members.

Members were well informed about branch progress and were afforded a democratic platform to be heard on student issues. The agenda was clear, focused and empowering.

We were honoured to be joined by Comrade Tso, the Spokesperson of the ANC in the Southern Cape, who delivered a powerful message of support. Comrade Tso emphasized the importance of SASCO as a vanguard of students and a key pillar of the Mass Democratic Movement. He stressed organizational discipline, unity and the need for SASCO to remain a strong, united and ideological home for all progressive students.
Overall, the meeting united the branch and reaffirmed that SASCO is alive and leading at George Campus. 💛🖤❤️💚

SASCO HOSTS SUCCESSFUL POLITICAL MOVIE NIGHT EDUCATION AS A TOOL FOR CONSCIENTIZATION

Last night, SASCO successfully hosted a Movie Night for students on campus.

This was not just entertainment. It was a deliberate act of political education.

As SASCO, we understand that the struggle does not only happen in lecture halls and during protests, but also in the ideological battleground. We used the movie night as a tool to conscientize, to unite, and to remind students that as the working-class youth, our stories matter and our unity is our weapon.

The turnout was overwhelming and proved one thing students are hungry for progressive programs that speak to them. Students are tired of a dead campus life where management only cares about academic exclusion and fee increments, not about student social cohesion and mental well-being.

We created a safe, free, and inclusive space for students to relax, interact and learn outside the pressures of academia - something this management has failed to do. Where management commercializes every space, SASCO provides community.

We thank all students who came in numbers and engaged with revolutionary discipline. This is the beginning of many more programs aimed at reviving student life and building a politically conscious student populace.

SASCO will continue to be the home for all students, both inside and outside the classroom. We lead, others follow.

SASCO STATEMENT ON RESIDENCE VISIT AND STUDENT LIVING CONDITIONS

The South African Students Congress, as the vanguard of students and the trusted shield of the poor and working-class student, yesterday undertook a comprehensive residence visit across campus residences.

We went to the ground. We listened. We heard the cries of our students directly.

We witnessed firsthand the unacceptable and inhumane conditions our students are subjected to
issues of maintenance, water, electricity, security, ablution facilities, overcrowding and lack of dignity in our residences. These are not minor inconveniences, they are an attack on the right to learn and live in dignity.

We want to assure all students in residences that your issues have been heard, and we will fight to ensure they are resolved. We are already engaging the relevant stakeholders and will push until there is concrete action and not empty promises. We will not rest until every student lives in a conducive environment for academic excellence.

However, as SASCO, we must be brutally honest: We were not aware of the extent of these issues. And why? Because students did not directly write to us as SASCO or to the SRC.

Comrades, let us be clear: Management does not care about you.Management has proven time and again that student welfare is not their priority. They sit in air-conditioned offices while students sleep in residences with broken windows, leaking ceilings and non-functional toilets. They will never voluntarily resolve your issues unless forced by organized

STATEMENT ON THE SUCCESSFUL AGM OF GEORGE CAMPUS

The SASCO Branch deployment was successfully convened and presided over the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the George Campus in the Western Cape.

The AGM stands as a clear reflection of the organisational theme of unity, stability, and renewal, as adopted at the provincial conference. It demonstrated the collective commitment of members to rebuild, strengthen, and advance SASCO on campus.

The meeting was characterised by discipline, robust engagement, and a shared vision to take forward the struggles of students, particularly those from poor and working-class backgrounds.

The following Branch Executive Committee (BEC) was democratically elected:
