Speaking on behalf of the Premier, the MEC for Social Development Ms Florence Radzilani gave the keynote address at the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day event in Musina. The theme was “Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work”.

She said elder abuse cannot be tolerated in homes, communities or institutions. Older people deserve to live in safety, dignity and respect. They are the keepers of our heritage and wisdom. They raised families and built the province, so they deserve care and protection.

The MEC also noted that many still suffer physical, emotional and financial abuse with most cases staying hidden because older people fear abandonment or being dependent on their abusers. She urged society to break the silence and report every case.

Her message to older persons in Limpopo was simple. You are valued. You are respected. You are not forgotten. She asked everyone to move from awareness to action and from compassion to real change.

Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba gave welcoming remarks during the Limpopo Provincial AIDS Council on its first 2026/27 meeting. She said the focus of the meeting was on reviewing Q4 performance and strengthening the province’s response to HIV, TB and related social issues.

The Premier said Limpopo has made gains, but is still behind the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. With 93% of people knowing their status and 81% of those diagnosed on treatment. Men are also testing less than women and progress has been flat since late 2025. She urged all Council members and partners to reflect on what’s holding us back. The call is for urgency, innovation and stronger teamwork to end HIV and TB as public health threats by 2030.
