AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS
MPUMALANGA PROVINCE
STATEMENT ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF TABLETS TO GRADE 10 LEARNERS
The African National Congress (ANC) in Mpumalanga welcomes the commencement of the tablet distribution programme to Grade 10 learners in Quintile 1 to 3 schools across the province.
This important intervention demonstrates government’s commitment to ensuring that every learner, regardless of their socio-economic background or geographic location, has access to quality education and the tools necessary to succeed in a rapidly changing digital world.
The ANC has consistently maintained that education remains one of the most powerful instruments for transforming society, reducing inequality, and creating opportunities for future generations. The distribution of tablets advances the vision contained in the Freedom Charter that “The Doors of Learning and Culture Shall Be Opened.”
This programme also gives practical effect to the commitment made by the Premier of Mpumalanga, Mandla Ndlovu, during the 2026 State of the Province Address (SOPA), where he outlined government’s determination to accelerate digital transformation in education, improve access to learning resources, and prepare learners for the demands of the modern economy.
We commend the Mpumalanga Department of Education for ensuring that the devices are fully configured with educational content, including e-books, learning applications, supplementary learning materials, and past examination papers. This approach ensures that technology becomes a practical learning resource that directly supports improved educational outcomes.
As outlined in the ANC 2024 Election Manifesto, Investing in People remains central to building a capable and developmental state. Through initiatives such as this, government is equipping learners with critical digital skills required to participate meaningfully in the modern economy and contribute towards the growth and development of our country.
The programme further contributes towards building industries for an inclusive economy by developing the digital skills that will be required by future generations, while also helping to bridge the digital divide and ensure that learners in rural and disadvantaged communities are not left behind.
We encourage learners to safeguard these devices, utilise them responsibly, and maximise the opportunities they provide for learning, innovation, research, and personal development. These tablets are an investment in the future of our children and the future prosperity of Mpumalanga and South Africa.
The ANC remains committed to working with government, educators, parents, and communities to ensure that every learner receives the support necessary to achieve their full potential.
Together, we are investing in people, expanding opportunities, and building a better future through education, skills development, and equal access to learning.
