As part of the Library Week programme, the initiative also coincided with the celebration of Dr A.B. Xuma Month, marking the birth month of this distinguished South African leader. The celebration served as an opportunity not only to honour his legacy but also to inspire learners to value education and knowledge.

During the activities, learners were encouraged to develop a strong reading culture and to recognise the importance of books in shaping their academic and personal growth. Educators and library officials emphasised that education is the key to success, and that reading plays a vital role in expanding learners’ knowledge, critical thinking, and creativity.

Through interactive activities such as reading, spelling Bee competitions, coding and robotics sessions and word-building games, learners were motivated to actively engage with learning resources available at the library. These initiatives aimed to promote literacy, innovation, and a lifelong love for reading among young learners.

The programme highlighted the importance of libraries as centres of knowledge, learning, and community development, while also reminding learners that dedication to education can open doors to many opportunities in the future

Library Week Celebration at Catuza SPS

Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality recently hosted an exciting Library Week celebration at Catuza SPS. The event was organised by Library and Information Services under Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality with the aim of promoting reading, learning, and educational development among learners.

During the celebration, learners participated in several educational and fun activities. These included a Spelling Bee competition, Reading, Coding and Robotics demonstrations, and a Word within a Word challenge. The activities encouraged learners to improve their language, thinking, and technology skills.

The event was well received by both learners and educators. Participants showed great enthusiasm and actively engaged in all the activities. The Spelling Bee helped improve vocabulary and confidence in public speaking, while the Coding and Robotics session introduced learners to basic technology and problem-solving skills.

The municipality highlighted the importance of libraries in supporting education and lifelong learning. Library Week provided an opportunity for learners to discover the many resources and programs offered by local libraries.

Dr AB Xuma Local Municipality, through Library and Information Services, continues to support literacy development and encourage young people to develop a love for reading and learning
