HEADLINES CAN BE MISLEADING
How many customers read an advert text in its context when we in the fire and emergency industry put out flyers or place advertising material?
I must admit that some do take note of the “full advert’s wording” and ask questions, but then there are also those who just look at the “highlighted” word(s) and the picture and believe everything that are “fed” to them.
To use words, like “The cab is based on the requirements of NFPA 1901” are misleading to those end users who do not know the full REQUIREMENT of the NFPA 1901. It may be true, but if there are any HONESTY and SINCERITY from companies, it will be correct for them to rather state that “the cab extension or apparatus is NFPA READY”.
NFPA 1901 standard defines the requirements for new automotive fire apparatus as a COMPLETE UNIT designed to be used under emergency conditions to transport personnel and equipment and to support the suppression of fires and mitigation of other hazardous situations. This means that the completed (FULLY BUILT UP) firefighting apparatus must be designed, constructed, 3rd party tested and certified as described in various chapters in NFPA 1901 (Latest Addition) before it can be certified as compliant.
Departments must stay vigilant in the fight and purchase apparatus to the highest proven manufacturing designs, techniques, and tested/certified to the most widely used NFPA 1901 standards. Ask for detailed manufacturing specifications and test/compliance certification of the completed apparatus then compare responses so you can see for yourself whether you will be protected from possible liability claims.
