Launch of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children & Open Health Day โ€“ Ducats, Ward 15

Date: Tuesday 25 November 2025
Time: 10:00 โ€“ 14:00
Venue: Ducats Community Hall, East London

bumbโ€™INGOMSO, in partnership with key community stakeholders, will host the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children alongside an Open Health Day in Ducats (Ward 15). Members of the media are invited to attend and cover this community-focused event.

In response to the high rate of teenage pregnancies in the province, bumbโ€™INGOMSO, in partnership with other concerned stakeholders, have been implementing the Teenage Pregnancy Campaign in ward 15 at both Nompumelelo informal settlement, Ducats and surrounding areas, through a series of activities including, door to door campaigns, open health days, anti-bullying sessions in the local school and parent-child dialogues.

Since violence and alcoholism are some of the contributing factors to teenage pregnancy, the Open Health Day and launch of 16 Days of activism for no violence against women and children, aim to empower adolescents, especially girls, to make informed health and life decisions, raise awareness about the connection between alcohol misuse, teenage pregnancy and GBV, promote access to youth-friendly health information and services and to foster collaboration between health providers, schools and NGOs.

Key activities to look forward to on the day:
โ€ข Health Services Pavilion: HIV testing, contraceptive counselling, mental health support and information on substance abuse.
โ€ข Community Dialogue Sessions: On alcohol harm, teenage pregnancy prevention and gender-based violence and substance abuse.
โ€ข Menโ€™s and Boysโ€™ Corner: Conversations on masculinity, respect and accountability.
โ€ข Resource Exhibition: NGOs, clinics and service providers display materials and services available to the community.

The event is hoped to result in improved awareness and community dialogue on the intersection of alcohol, substance abuse, GBV and teenage pregnancy, strengthened partnerships for integrated service delivery beyond the campaign and empowered young people who view health access and decision-making as a right, not a privilege.

Organisations are welcome to set up information stalls at the venue.

We're super proud of you Aviwe!

Our Worklink intervention has been supporting TVET students throughout their Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) journey.

As many of them draw closer to completing their WIL, we continue sharing their experiences, lessons, and proudest moments.

Today, we spotlight Aviwe Ndlazi, a student from Buffalo City TVET College, who is completing her WIL at Masibumbane Development Organisation.

Aviwe attended our Work Readiness workshops, which she says equipped her with essential skills such as CV writing, interview preparation, and emotional intelligence - all of which strengthened her WIL journey.

It's Harvest Season๐Ÿฅฆ๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿฅ•๐Ÿซœ

Through our Bumb'INGOMSO psychosocial support intervention, we introduced square meter gardens to provide nutritious vegetables for students who are not funded or who need a little extra support.

This first harvest at Buffalo City TVET, is a milestone that goes beyond food security - it fosters resilience, community, and wellbeing on campus.

We are encouraged by the impact these gardens are already making in studentsโ€™ lives, and we look forward to expanding this initiative to ensure more learners benefit from both the produce and the sense of belonging it brings. ๐Ÿ’š
