The Cambridge West Housing Development is rising in Ward 16, Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality, and is set to deliver 275 homes to families dispossessed during the former Ciskei era.

For generations, families from Mdantsane lived with the pain of losing their homes. This project is about more than bricks and mortar, it's about restoring dignity, securing tenure, and healing historic injustices.

The Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements is building more than just homes. We are restoring justice.

As we mark Public Service Month, we reflect on the vital role public servants play in giving effect to the Constitution and ensuring that the rights of our people are realised.

In today’s feature, Khaya Panziso speaks about the importance of public service, particularly in advancing the right to adequate housing as provided for in Section 26 of the Bill of Rights.

The Housing Act 107 of 1997 further provides the legislative framework for housing delivery and the promotion of sustainable human settlements.

As public servants, we have a responsibility to serve with commitment, integrity and purpose — ensuring that constitutional rights translate into real and meaningful change in our communities.
