As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen service delivery and improve the quality of life of vulnerable households, Deputy Minister of Social Development Mr Ganief Hendricks today led the Integrated Community Registration Outreach Programme (ICROP) in Motherwell, Nelson Mandela Bay.

The outreach, conducted in partnership with SASSA, the Department of Social Development and the National Development Agency and various stakeholders, brought essential government services closer to residents while addressing concerns raised during community engagements.

Key issues highlighted included unemployment, household vulnerability, dependence on social grants, barriers to skills development and labour market participation, as well as challenges related to social grant reviews, life certification and SRD grant enquiries.

The intervention aims to ensure that qualifying beneficiaries receive the support they are entitled to, strengthen the integrity of the social security system and improve access to government services for communities most in need.

As the programme comes to a close at Sinako Junior Secondary School in Ezibeleni, it ends not with silence, but with resolve.

Child Protection Month may officially conclude, but its message remains firmly rooted - protecting children is a duty that cannot be postponed or ignored. The voices of learners have echoed a clear truth: abuse has no place in our schools, homes, or communities.

What remains is a call to action. To stay alert. To speak out. And to ensure that every child grows up in an environment defined by safety, dignity, and hope.

As Child Protection Month program continues , the GCIS podcast was honoured to host the MEC for Social Development at Ezibeleni in Komani. During the discussion, the MEC highlighted the department’s ongoing programmes aimed at protecting the girl child and empowering the boy child.

Among the key initiatives outlined were boy child empowerment programmes designed to equip young boys with positive values, life skills, and a sense of responsibility. The MEC also encouraged community members and neighbours to speak out against any violation of children's rights, stressing that child protection is a collective responsibility.

She noted that these interventions are intended to create safer communities, increase the reporting of cases of r**e and child abuse, and ultimately contribute to a reduction in crimes against children.
