RIFT AMONGST A PEOPLE . 1856.

In the late 1850s, a prophecy born in Gxarha would echo across the Xhosa nation and into the pages of South African history.

At the centre stands Imbonikazi Nongqawuse, the young maiden prophetess whose vision promised a world reborn.

As her prophecy spread, Amathamba the believers embraced the promise, while Amagogotya the unbelievers questioned what could not be seen.

Faith became fear. Doubt became defiance. Families fractured, alliances turned, and a nation was drawn toward a destiny no one could see.

What happens when a people must choose between believing the prophecy and surviving it?

A HOMECOMING IN SONG

Sakhiwe Mkosana — Baritone | Germaine Gamiet — Piano

Two musicians with deep Eastern Cape roots reunite on stage at the Guild Theatre this October.

Internationally acclaimed South African baritone Sakhiwe Mkosana returns to the Eastern Cape for a special recital, accompanied by KuGompo City pianist Germaine Gamiet.

Their musical paths first crossed at the University of Fort Hare, long before their careers would take them in different directions and far beyond the Eastern Cape. On 20 October, those paths meet again.

A Homecoming in Song presents an evening of opera and art song, bringing together the European classical tradition with South African repertoire and selected works from musical theatre.

For KuGompo City audiences, this is a rare opportunity to experience an internationally active South African baritone in the intimacy of a recital setting — and to celebrate a shared musical history that began right here in the Eastern Cape.
