REVOLUTIONARY GREETINGS TO THE STUDENT POPULATION AND LOVERS OF AZANIA!✋🏾💚🖤💛

The Pan Africanist Student Movement of Azania (PASMA), University of Fort Hare, notes with outrage the precautionary suspension of Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Sakhele Buhlungu. We condemn the actions of a man who has consistently undermined student leadership and perpetuated anti-student policies.

Professor Buhlungu's reign has been characterised by authoritarianism and disregard for student voices. His suspension is a small victory, but it does not erase the damage he has done.

PASMA demands:
- Full accountability for Professor Buhlungu's actions
- An end to anti-student policies and repression

As part of the PASMA Thursday 💚💛🖤,The practice emerged as a strategic day dedicated to student-centered struggle and service, drawing from PASMA’s founding principles of Pan-Africanism, anti-imperialism, and free, decolonised education. Thursdays are deliberately chosen to allow consistent weekly engagement with students during peak academic activity on campuses.

As we are welcoming students who require assistance with late applications, registrations, temporary accommodation, email activation for registered students, Blackboard access, addition and cancellation of modules, as well as academic appeals.

19/01/2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
FROM: PASMA JEFF MASEMOLA BRANCH
TO: RESPECTIVE STUDENTS
SUBJECT: COMMUNIQUE ON KEY STUDENT ADMINISTRATIVE MATTERS
DATE: 19 JANUARY 2026

Greetings to the student masses, This communique serves to provide detailed clarification and guidance on matters that directly affect students.

1.NSFAS ACCREDITED ACCOMODATION
All first year students are strongly advised to await official allocation of accommodation by the institution and to refrain from applying for any private student accommodation through the NSFAS Accommodation Portal. It is important to note that the NSFAS January application window is primarily designated for TVET colleges and not for universities.

First year students tend to apply for funding during this January NSFAS window which is a risk implication. In cases where a student is provisionally funded and later undergoes NSFAS verification, any changes to their funding status, such as defunding or delays may result in the immediate loss of NSFAS accredited accommodation.

To avoid the risk of losing accommodation or experiencing funding related challenges, first year students are encouraged to rely on institution allocated accommodation and follow official university communication regarding residence placement.

2.GRADUATION
Students who are currently awaiting confirmation letters for graduation are advised to personally visit their respective academic faculties. This consultation is essential to verify whether all academic requirements have been met.

Students must ensure that they have successfully completed all required modules and have obtained the minimum number of credits prescribed for the completion of their qualification. Failure to confirm this information in advance may result in delays in graduation approval or exclusion from the graduation list. Early verification allows students to address any outstanding academic matters

3.Registration Fee
Returning students who are academically eligible to register but are currently blocked due to outstanding debt, and who intend to pay the registration fee, are required to first visit the Financial Aid Office (FAO).

The purpose of this visit is to formally declare that the payment being made is strictly for the registration fee, which amounts to R3,500. This step is critical, as payments made without prior declaration may automatically be allocated toward settling outstanding debt instead of clearing the registration block. Such misallocation may result in continued registration restrictions despite payment.

Students are strongly encouraged to read and adhere to the information provided to avoid unnecessary complications

Regards
Anathi Moni
Deputy Secretary General.
