Thank you for your comments and for raising the question regarding the use of AI.

Just to clarify: the use of AI in creating an image for a social media post should not be confused with the substance or purpose of the message itself.

Like many organisations, the CPF occasionally uses AI-assisted tools to create visuals where appropriate. This assists us in producing clear and impactful awareness material without relying on photographs of real victims, particularly where the subject matter involves vulnerable women and children. Using an AI-generated image also helps us protect the dignity, identity and privacy of those who may be affected.

The image is simply a visual aid intended to draw attention to an important issue. It does not replace the work being done behind the scenes, engagement with relevant stakeholders, or the reporting of concerns to the appropriate authorities.

Our focus remains where it should be: raising awareness, supporting our community and ensuring that serious concerns affecting vulnerable members of our community are brought to the attention of the appropriate role-players.

We appreciate constructive questions and engagement. We also believe that the conversation should remain focused on the plight of those who need assistance, rather than solely on the technology used to create an awareness image.

The Durbanville CPF has received concerns regarding adults and children standing at intersections and on the streets asking motorists for money.

While we understand that many families face genuine hardship, we are particularly concerned when young children are exposed to traffic, extreme weather conditions, hunger, dehydration or other potentially unsafe circumstances.

Children should not be placed in situations where their safety and wellbeing may be compromised.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

If you see a child who appears to be in distress, unsupervised, exposed to dangerous conditions, hungry, dehydrated, or repeatedly being used to solicit money, please report your concerns to the appropriate authorities.

COMMUNITY AWARENESS & APPEAL FOR RESPONSIBLE ASSISTANCE

The Durbanville CPF wishes to bring an ongoing concern to the attention of our community.

A woman accompanied by a young child has reportedly been observed begging regularly at the corner of Fairtrees Road and Sport Way, particularly over weekends. The presence of a young child in these circumstances understandably raises concerns regarding the child’s welfare, safety and possible vulnerability.

We appeal to members of the public not to provide cash, food, clothing or other items directly at this location. While the instinct to assist comes from a place of kindness and compassion, direct street giving can unintentionally perpetuate vulnerable situations and may discourage appropriate intervention and support.

Where there are concerns involving a child, the matter should rather be brought to the attention of the relevant authorities so that the circumstances can be properly assessed and, where necessary, appropriate assistance and protection can be provided.

The CPF also appeals to community members not to feed or distribute items to individuals congregating outside the Durbanville SAPS station. While these acts are undoubtedly motivated by kindness, ongoing direct street feeding contributes to people remaining and congregating in these areas and creates additional challenges, including littering and sanitation concerns.

Compassion must be accompanied by responsible action.

If you are concerned about the welfare of a child or vulnerable person, please report the matter to SAPS or the appropriate social services so that appropriate intervention and assistance can be considered.

Media Statement – Attempted Robbery Arrest in Durbanville

At 10:17am on 03 September 2026, a lady narrowly escaped an attempted robbery by two suspects in Church Street, Durbanville. Thankfully, she managed to get away unharmed.

Video footage was obtained, and the CPF together with Armed Response companies were immediately notified. A lookout was issued with the description of the suspects.

Upon receiving further information, the Durbanville SAPS Station Commander activated external resources and mobilized them to track down the suspects. In a joint collaboration, Metro Police and SAPS successfully arrested one of the suspects linked to the attempted robbery.

This arrest is the result of a united effort between SAPS, Metro Police, CPF, and Armed Response companies. It highlights once again the value of strong policing partnerships, quick reaction to information, and the community’s willingness to register criminal cases.

Durbanville CPF Takes Positive Choices Message to Fisantekraal High School

Durbanville, 19 August 2026 — The Durbanville Community Policing Forum (CPF) today took its message of positive choices, personal responsibility and hope to Grade 10 and 11 learners at Fisantekraal High School.

Learners were encouraged to stand up for what is right, make positive decisions and prioritise their education as a foundation for a better future.

Homegrown actor Bradley Williams, together with community activist Bradwin Daniels, brought the message to life through a powerful stage performance highlighting how alcohol and drug abuse, fi****ms, gangsterism and teenage pregnancy can rob young people of opportunities and have a lasting impact on their families and communities.

The Durbanville CPF extends its sincere thanks to Cllr Kurt Oliver and Sgt Sithole of the SAPS Spiritual Crime Prevention Unit for helping make this important engagement possible, as well as to the Principal and staff of Fisantekraal High School for welcoming the initiative and supporting the programme.

The outreach forms part of the Durbanville CPF’s broader initiative to increase meaningful engagement with young people and build strong, sustainable partnerships with schools and churches across Durbanville.
