*STATEMENT BY THE* *MKP ETHEKWINI* *REGION ELECTIONS* *TEAM*
*CLARIFICATION ON* *AFFECTED LIST* *CANDIDATES*

The MKP eThekwini Region Elections Team would like to provide clarity regarding the affected list candidates.
The leadership at all levels is working tirelessly to ensure that all identified errors are addressed and corrected. We acknowledge that, in some wards, incorrect candidates were registered, and we are working around the clock to find solutions in the best interests of the organisation.

However, we must all understand that, as law-abiding citizens and an organisation that respects the law, we are required to follow all procedures and protocols put in place by *the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).*

We would also like to clarify that the wards affected by the registration of incorrect candidates are *different from those affected by* *the screening and* *verification processes.*

The MKP is an organisation that respects its members and their dignity. It was therefore agreed that members affected by the vetting and screening process would receive the relevant reports directly, rather than having such information made public. It will then be up to the affected individuals to decide whether they wish to share those reports with their respective wards.

We therefore appeal to all comrades who were rejected during the screening and vetting process *not to use the current administrative* *challenges in wards* *where incorrect* *candidates were* *registered as an* *opportunity to claim that* *they were also* *victims of administrative* *errors* , particularly where they are aware that their exclusion was as a result of the vetting process.

We call upon all our comrades to remain focused and continue with the daily campaigns and programmes of the MKP while allowing the leadership the necessary space to find solutions to the matters at hand.

We must remain calm and await a comprehensive report from the National Office on this matter.

We must also remember that we all joined this organisation voluntarily and without any motive of personal gain or self-enrichment.

Therefore, organisational programmes and activities cannot be suspended because of temporary challenges.
At this critical moment, we must remain disciplined, united and focused. The principle of democratic centralism must be applied and respected at all times if we are serious about building the future of this organisation.

Today, the case involving 58 victims of what the State has described as the “July unrest” appeared before the Durban Magistrate’s Court.

The uMkhonto weSizwe Party maintains that there were no instigators behind the “July unrest”. Rather, there were sporadic groups of people across the country who protested against what they believed was the illegal and unconstitutional incarceration of President Zuma.

These victims were arrested for posting on social media about the imprisonment of President Zuma, who was sentenced without trial.
