DMPS K9 UNIT TRACKS AND ARRESTS COPPER THEFT SUSPECTS

Earlier today, Supt Morison and Patrol Dog Hercules successfully followed a spoor that led to the arrest of three male suspects linked to the theft of municipal copper.

The suspects were charged under Section 36 – Possession of Suspected Stolen Property after officers recovered 8.3 kg of suspected stolen copper.

The recovery of stolen municipal infrastructure helps prevent service disruptions and protects public assets. DMPS remains committed to combating infrastructure-related crime and bringing offenders to justice.

ENFORCEMENT VCP CONDUCTED ON QUEEN NANDI DRIVE

Earlier today, Durban Metro Police Service ORS officers conducted a Vehicle Check Point operation on Nandi Drive as part of ongoing crime prevention and road safety initiatives.

The operation focused on traffic law enforcement, vehicle compliance inspections, and enhancing police visibility in the area. Motorists and vehicles were screened to ensure compliance with road traffic legislation and to assist in the prevention of criminal activity.

JOINT DMPS AND SAPS ROADBLOCK RESULT IN 17 DRUNK DRIVING ARRESTS

Durban Metro Police Service (DMPS), together with South African Police Service Mayville, conducted a roadblock operation on Umgeni Road next to the Power Station on Saturday, 06 June 2026.

The operation resulted in the arrest of 17 motorists for Driving While Under the Influence (DWD), comprising 16 males and 1 female.

The joint operation forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety, reduce alcohol-related crashes, and ensure compliance with traffic laws.

DMPS and SAPS remain committed to making our roads safer for all road users.

INTEGRATED BY-LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATION | HILLCREST

Durban Metro Police Service, in conjunction with South African Police Service, Environmental Health, Supply Side and Area-Based Operations, conducted an Integrated By-Law Enforcement Operation in the Hillcrest area targeting by-law contraventions, illegal trading, environmental health compliance, crime prevention and visible policing.

During the operation, ten suspects were apprehended and taken for immigration status verification at Home Affairs. Following the verification process, nine suspects were confirmed to be in the country illegally and will be processed and detained at Hillcrest SAPS pending further legal procedures.

Durban Metro Police remains committed to working with partner agencies to enforce municipal by-laws, address illegal activities and promote safer communities.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT ENFORCEMENT OPERATION

Durban Metro Police Service Public Transport Unit, assisted by the Strike Team and Inner West members, conducted an enforcement operation targeting public transport compliance.

During the operation, nine public transport minibuses were found operating without valid route permits. All nine minibuses were taken to the Durban Central Pound, with one vehicle being towed.

DMPS remains committed to enforcing public transport regulations and ensuring safer, lawful transport operations within the city.
