Statement: Education as the Foundation of Economic Freedom
In order to transform and strengthen our economy, we must first change and improve our education system. Education is not only about passing grades; it is about equipping the youth with the knowledge and skills to drive development, innovation, and nation building.
For too long, our schools have been structured in ways that prepare learners to be job seekers instead of job creators. If we are to build an economy that works for the people, we must build an education system that empowers learners to understand, use, and expand upon the wealth of resources our country already possesses.
South Africa is blessed with some of the richest mineral deposits in the world, including gold, platinum, coal, diamonds, iron ore, manganese, and chromium. These are not just natural resources ,they are tools for development and instruments of economic freedom. It is therefore essential that students are taught not only the science and economics behind these resources, but also their history, their value, and how they can be used to uplift our communities rather than exploit them.
An education system that grounds learners in the realities of our land and resources is one that produces future leaders, entrepreneurs, engineers, and innovators. By aligning our classrooms with the needs of our economy, we ensure that the wealth of our soil benefits the people of our nation.
The struggle for economic freedom begins in the classroom. A transformed education system is the key to unlocking South Africa’s true potential.
