COSAS INKOSI BHAMBHATHA REGION ATTENDS CAREER GUIDANCE DAY AT MAHLOKOHLOKHLO SECONDARY SCHOOL
17 October 2025

The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) in the Inkosi Bhambhatha Region (Umzinyathi District) proudly attended the Career Guidance Day held at Mahlokohlokhlo Secondary School on the 17th of October 2025.

The delegation was led by the Regional Coordinator, Comrade Mesuli Dumakude, accompanied by the Deputy Regional Coordinator, Comrade Lwanele Magubane.
The engagement focused on empowering learners with insights into careers in Agriculture and Technology, emphasising that education remains a key weapon in the struggle against poverty and unemployment particularly in rural districts such as Umzinyathi.

During the visit, a Branch Task Team (BTT) was officially appointed at Mahlokohlokhlo Secondary School, marking an important step in strengthening COSAS structures and promoting active learner leadership within the institution.

The Region extends heartfelt appreciation to Principal Mrs. Zikalala and the school management for their cooperation and commitment to nurturing disciplined, visionary, and academically driven learners.

Statement: Education as the Foundation of Economic Freedom

In order to transform and strengthen our economy, we must first change and improve our education system. Education is not only about passing grades; it is about equipping the youth with the knowledge and skills to drive development, innovation, and nation building.

For too long, our schools have been structured in ways that prepare learners to be job seekers instead of job creators. If we are to build an economy that works for the people, we must build an education system that empowers learners to understand, use, and expand upon the wealth of resources our country already possesses.

South Africa is blessed with some of the richest mineral deposits in the world, including gold, platinum, coal, diamonds, iron ore, manganese, and chromium. These are not just natural resources ,they are tools for development and instruments of economic freedom. It is therefore essential that students are taught not only the science and economics behind these resources, but also their history, their value, and how they can be used to uplift our communities rather than exploit them.

An education system that grounds learners in the realities of our land and resources is one that produces future leaders, entrepreneurs, engineers, and innovators. By aligning our classrooms with the needs of our economy, we ensure that the wealth of our soil benefits the people of our nation.

The struggle for economic freedom begins in the classroom. A transformed education system is the key to unlocking South Africa’s true potential.

The Regional Coordinator of COSAS in Inkosi BHAMBATHA CDE Mesuli Dumakude was at the 6th ANCYL Inkosi BHAMBATHA Congress to deliver a message of Support as members of the Progressives Youth Alliance (PYA)

*Message of Support from COSAS Inkosi Bhambatha Region to the 6th Regional Conference of the ANCYL*

The Congress of South African Students (COSAS) in the Inkosi Bhambatha Region sends its militant salute and unwavering message of support to the 6th Regional Conference of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL). This gathering of young lions is not just a formality it is a revolutionary platform that must ignite the flames of radical transformation and youth empowerment across our region.

This conference takes place at a critical juncture in the life of our movement. Young people are still confronted by poverty, inequality, unemployment, and a broken education system that continues to fail the black child. As COSAS, we say: Enough is enough! We demand leadership that understands that the classroom is a political space, that education is a weapon, and that no learner must be left behind. The ANCYL must rise and become the loudest voice in the fight for free, quality, decolonized education and COSAS is ready to walk side by side in that battle.

Our relationship with the ANCYL is not symbolic it is strategic, it is historical, and it is forged in the trenches of struggle. COSAS expects this conference to produce disciplined, ideologically grounded, and action-driven leaders who will not only lead marches but who will lead campaigns, lead in policy, and lead in restoring dignity to young people across Inkosi Bhambatha.

We are also inspired and encouraged to see in the house, former COSAS Provincial Chairperson, Comrade Siyabonga Bhambatha Pakathi a tried and tested cadre who has been instrumental in shaping youth leadership in this province and beyond. His presence is not only symbolic; it is a reminder of the calibre of leadership this movement must continue to produce: principled, fearless, and committed to the total liberation of the African child.

This must not be a conference of positions, but of purpose. The eyes of the youth are upon you. History will not forgive indecisiveness.

*Forward to a militant, focused, and progressive ANCYL!*

*Forward to free and quality education for all!*

*Viva COSAS Viva!*

*Viva ANCYL Viva!*

*Amandla*
