AMAJUBA DISTRICT MAYOR LEADS SITE VISIT FOR JOJO TANK INSTALLATION IN SKOBHARENI

As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen water supply interventions in Ward 1, Amajuba District Municipality Executive Mayor, Councillor T.E. Mthembu, led a site visit to the identified locations where JoJo water tanks will be installed in Skobhareni.

The Mayor was joined by the Ward 1 Councillor of Dannhauser Local Municipality, Cllr M. Mkhumane, together with officials from Amajuba District Municipality and representatives from Dannhauser Local Municipality.

The purpose of the visit was to confirm and assess the designated installation sites to ensure that the JoJo tanks are strategically positioned to serve the affected communities efficiently.

This initiative forms part of the ongoing collaboration between Amajuba District Municipality and Dannhauser Local Municipality to provide short-term relief while long-term solutions to the area’s water supply challenges continue to be pursued.

Dannhauser Local Municipality Engages Skobhareni Community on Electricity Challenges

Dannhauser Local Municipality held a constructive engagement with members of the Skobhareni community (Ward 01) at the Municipal Offices to discuss the electricity challenges affecting the area following the failure of a transformer.

The meeting was attended by His Worship the Mayor Cllr B.A Radebe , the Municipal Manager, Mr M.S. Sithole, the Director: Technical Services, Mrs L.P. Gcabashe, Ward Councillor Cllr M. Mkhumane, and community members.

The purpose of the engagement was to discuss practical steps towards resolving the matter and to facilitate engagement with Eskom, as the utility responsible for replacing the damaged transformer.

As a way forward, a follow-up meeting has been scheduled for next week between Dannhauser Local Municipality, Eskom, and representatives of the Skobhareni community. The meeting aims to find a lasting solution and secure the installation of a new transformer to restore a reliable electricity supply to the affected residents.

Dannhauser Local Municipality remains committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure that the concerns of the community are addressed as quickly and effectively as possible.

Persistent Coordination by Dannhauser Yields Results as Intergovernmental Relations Take Centre Stage

Following persistent engagements and coordinated discussions between Dannhauser Local Municipality, Amajuba District Municipality and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), significant progress has been made in addressing the ongoing water challenges affecting local communities.

The interventions, prompted by the recent water crisis and community concerns, resulted in Amajuba District Municipality resolving to provide emergency support. As an immediate relief measure, the District has deployed eight (8) water tankers, each with a 10,000-litre capacity, to assist in ensuring the continued supply of water to affected in Dannhauser, ward 01

This intervention demonstrates the importance of strong intergovernmental relations and collaborative governance in delivering timely support to community during times of need.

Dannhauser Local Municipality Participates in Urgent Provincial Water Crisis Meeting

Dannhauser Local Municipality participated in an urgent Water Crisis Meeting convened by the Honourable MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Rev. Thulasizwe Buthelezi, on Tuesday, 04 August 2026.

The meeting brought together Municipal Managers and Technical Managers from municipalities across KwaZulu-Natal to discuss the ongoing water challenges affecting communities and to identify practical interventions aimed at strengthening water security and ensuring sustainable service delivery.

Dannhauser Local Municipality was represented by the Municipal Manager, Mr M.S. Sithole, and the Director: Technical Services Mrs L.P Gcabashe, who joined fellow municipal leaders in engaging on collaborative solutions to mitigate the impact of water shortages.

As part of the interventions announced during the engagement, Dannhauser Local Municipality has received a water tanker, which will be stationed within the municipality to assist in responding to water supply challenges and to help minimise the impact of water shortages experienced by communities.

Dannhauser Local Municipality remains committed to working closely with provincial stakeholders and other strategic partners to improve access to reliable water services and to ensure that residents receive the essential services they deserve.
