[WATCH] Tembisa Hospital pays tribute to hardworking nurses
Tembisa Hospital hosted International Nurses Day as a means of paying homage and honouring nurses who continue to go beyond the call of duty in their work. The function was held on Thursday, 11 June 2026 at the hospital sports ground.
International Nurses Day was celebrated under the theme, "Our Nurses, Our Future. The economic power of care."
Keynote speaker Dr Kagiso Tukisi, who is an accomplished professional nurse, midwife, neonatal specialist, researcher and nursing leader spoke to how Tembisa Hospital nurses showed commitment and dedication during the fire at the Emergency Department in April 2025. He also urged nursing managers to attend to study leave on time which allows nurses to study and learn innovative ways to assist in the nursing sector.
Acting CEO Rianna Louw also added how nurses are the backbone of the hospital. She said nurses are on the bedside of a patient on a daily basis. They are not just rendering a service at the hospital but they are saving lives.
The event included a prize giving ceremony for nurses who have continued to go beyond the call of duty in discharging their work.
International Nurses Day is celebrated globally every year on 12 May.
