We at eSpaza'Sum are noting with concern the recent developments in the Townships around the matter of protests as a result of illicit products that are purportedly being sold by Spaza operated by foreign nationals. It is not yet established concretely whether or not even some Spaza that are operated by locals are also guilty of the precise.
Currently, these incidences are being reported in the areas of Pretoria West and parts of Soweto with the high possibility to other areas.
The practise of the selling of illicit products has aroused anger from the local communities residents. This has transpired into the action of closing the suspected culprits Spaza down. Looting is also part of the sporadic mobilisation by local forums that have organized and lead the protests.
This state of affairs is regrettable given that the source of causality of the mayhem could have been averted and is avoidable. This is the symptom of the classical case of collapsing of INSTITUTIONS that are meant to maintain proper checks as far as consumer interests are concerned. We must not neglect the fact that there is also a socio-political dimension to the uprising.
A crude assessment shows that we are dealing with syndicated operation targeted at Township communities. This is the task of the Hawks for crack down given the billions of Rands involved as well as the sophistication of the warehousing and distribution.
Our stand point is that we don't agree nor condone the aggressive nature of the crackdown which boarder on criminality despite the valid concern over the illicit sale of products which could pose health risks amongst our communities.
eSpaza'Sum as community brand stand for the promotion of locally owned Spaza's run on sound business practise and ethics. Authenticity is at the core of our operations and we stand ready to assist to ensure stability and proper services to our local communities.
