We are constantly told that DA-run municipalities are the best in the country โ€” that they are models of good governance, efficiency, and service delivery. But we want to speak honestly today, not from reports or political slogans, but from lived reality on the ground.

Because in our communities โ€” in the very same municipalities that are praised โ€” the experience is different.

When heavy rains come, our streets flood.
When infrastructure fails, our people wait.
When services are delivered, they are often uneven โ€” better in some areas, neglected in others.

So the question we must ask is simple: best for who?

A municipality cannot call itself well-run if whole communities feel left behind. Good governance is not just about clean audits and balanced books โ€” it is about dignity, fairness, and equal service for every resident, regardless of where they live.

Our people are not asking for miracles. We are asking for:

- Proper stormwater systems that protect our homes
- Timely maintenance and response when problems arise
- Equal attention and investment across all communities

We are asking to be seen. We are asking to be treated as equal citizens.

This is not about tearing anyone down โ€” it is about raising the standard. If a municipality claims excellence, then that excellence must be visible in every street, every ward, every community.

We will continue to speak up.
We will continue to demand accountability.
And we will continue to work for a municipality that serves all its people โ€” not just some.

Because true leadership is not measured by what is said in offices, but by what is experienced by the people on the ground.

And right now, our people are still waiting.

Women Farmworkers and Farm dwellers are under ATTACK in Witzenberg!!!

The current eviction wave in Witzenberg is DAMAGING, Die huidige uitsettings plaag in Witzenberg RUK.
To our shock a second family from Bronaar Farm approach the offices of the Witzenberg Justice Coalition. The Snyder family must vacate the house on 30 April 2026. Oom Pieter is tans 58 jaar oud and suffers from arthritus.
The Couter family must vacate the house on 20 April 2026. It is evident Bronaar Farm is cutting their privilge to permanent tenure security. The attorney on record is Hein Otto, uit ons ondervinding, 'n prokereur wat met 'n ferm koue hand slaan.

As a call towards building unity, farmworkers from various areas will gather tomorrow, 18 April 2026 to CAUCUS.

Yesterday we made our presence felt in Ward 11, Chris Hani in Tulbagh, as we carried out a Online Voter Registration and ANC Membership Recruitment Drive as part of our renewal programme.

Engaging with community members, encouraging active participation in the democratic process, and strengthening the organisation at grassroots level. The response from residents was encouraging and reflects a growing commitment to rebuilding and renewing the movement.

Within just one hour, we successfully registered 37 new voters โ€” with 20 young people who will be voting for the very first time. This is a powerful sign of growing youth participation and confidence in shaping the future.

The work continues. Renewal is not a slogan โ€” it is action.

PUBLIC STATEMENT
By Ward Councillor Andile Gili and PR Councillor Noluthando Nogcinisa

We wish to address the serious learner transport matter affecting learners from Prince Alfred Hamlet who attend Iingcinga Zethu Secondary School.

On 12 February 2026, a bus belonging to Jafta Bus Services, transporting learners from Prince Alfred Hamlet to Iingcinga Zethu Secondary School, was involved in an accident. We are relieved that there were no fatalities or serious injuries reported. However, the incident has exposed a long-standing and dangerous issue of learner transport overloading.

The bus in question is a 60-seater vehicle, yet it has been transporting 87 learners โ€” an overload of 27 learners. This is not only a violation of safety standards but places the lives of our children at unacceptable risk. What makes this situation even more concerning is that the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is fully aware of the overloading on this route.

Parents who met with the school principal on the morning of Thursday, 26 February 2026, were informed that the WCED has approved transport funding for only 49 learners on this route. The remaining 38 learners have not yet been approved. According to the principal, the school has submitted multiple emails to the WCED requesting urgent intervention and approval for these learners.

It was further explained that the bus company has been allowing the additional learners to travel while awaiting WCED approval, as this is reportedly common practice, with claims submitted retrospectively once approvals are granted. However, the principal informed parents that, effective immediately, the 38 unapproved learners would no longer be permitted to board the bus until formal approval is received from the WCED.

Despite this instruction, parents understandably sent their children to school this morning, and once again the 60-seater bus transported 87 learners โ€” 27 above its legal capacity.

We are deeply concerned by the lack of urgency displayed by the WCED in resolving this matter. This issue directly affects the safety, dignity, and constitutional right to education of learners, including Grade 12 learners who are in a critical academic year. The failure to address overloading โ€” despite being aware of it and receiving reports from school management โ€” demonstrates a troubling disregard for learner safety.

It is equally disturbing that among the 38 learners still awaiting approval are children who have been attending the same school since Grade 8. Their sudden exclusion from transport support at this stage is unjustifiable and disruptive to their education.

We therefore call on the Western Cape Education Department to:

1. Immediately approve transport funding for the 38 outstanding learners.

2. Deploy an additional bus to eliminate overloading on this route without delay.

3. Provide a clear written action plan with timelines to both the school and affected parents.

4. Ensure strict monitoring and enforcement of learner transport safety standards.

The lives of our children cannot be compromised by administrative delays and bureaucratic inefficiency. Learner safety must never be negotiable.

We stand in full solidarity with the parents and learners of Prince Alfred Hamlet and will continue to pursue this matter until a safe, fair, and permanent solution is implemented.

MEDIA VERKLARING
ANC VEROORDEEL EFF SE VERRAAD VAN DIE ARMES IN WITZENBERG RAAD EN DOEN โ€™N OPROEP VIR DIE TERUGROEPING VAN DIE EFF-RAADSLID
