The Office of the Military Ombud ensures the accuracy and reliability of information received during investigations by applying an impartial and evidence-based investigative process.

Information provided by complainants and respondents is carefully assessed, clarified where necessary and verified through supporting documents, records, evidence and engagements with relevant parties.

Ultimately findings are based on the information and evidence established during the investigation rather than on an allegation or a single version of events.

On the final day of the Outreach Programme in North West, the Office engaged with members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) as well as members of the public to raise awareness about its mandate and services.

Members of the public may lodge complaints regarding the official conduct of SANDF members while on duty.

As part of the outreach programme, the Office visited the Bapong mining area to raise awareness among members of the public about the Office’s mandate and the avenues available to them should they wish to lodge a complaint.

A public activation was conducted at the Tlhatlhaganyane mining area and Ledig, North West, to inform members of the public that the Office is readily available to assist individuals who may be aggrieved by the conduct of uniformed members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) while on duty.

The Office has concluded its outreach programme for uniformed members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in the North West. As part of the programme, the Office visited all SANDF bases in the province to educate and inform soldiers about the procedures to follow when lodging a complaint.

Uniformed members may lodge complaints relating to their conditions of service like unfair dismissal, promotion, tools of trade and amongst others.

As part of its ongoing outreach programme, the Office engaged with the military aiming to strengthen awareness by fostering meaningful dialogue and reinforcing its commitment to accessible and impartial service.

Members of the public in Brits, North West, have today learned about the establishment of an office dedicated to assisting them in lodging complaints regarding the conduct of uniformed members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) while on duty. The Office will also visit areas like Mogwase, Bapong and Tlhatlhaganyane in an effort to create awareness about its mandate.

The Military Ombud Outreach Team informed uniformed members of the School of Artillery in Klipdrift that the Military Ombud has the power to summon any person to appear before him and provide information that may have a bearing on a complaint.

The Military Ombud Outreach Team conducted presentations for members of 1 Tactical Intelligence Regiment, Military Police Potchefstroom, and LEGSATO. During these presentations, members were informed about the prescribed time-frames for lodging complaints with the Office.
