TEDA recently visited Mamelodi, where we met 2025 Tshwane Women in Business Award Manufacturing runner-up Pontsho Dibakwane, founder of Curly Crowns, who took us through her business.

Curly Crowns is redefining hair care by developing products specifically created for Black African hair textures. In a market where many products are designed outside this context, Curly Crowns is bridging a real gap by offering solutions that understand and respond to local haircare needs.

Pontsho studied cosmetic formulation to better understand product development and how different ingredients can be infused to support natural hair growth. Her work draws on home-based ingredients and natural formulations rooted in hair health. The product range includes a clarifying shampoo infused with tea tree, a hydrating hair spray with hibiscus, a growth oil blended with natural oils, moringa butter designed to support hair follicles, and a conditioner infused with coconut and rosemary.

Focused on supporting healthy hair growth, restoring hairlines and improving overall hair fullness, Curly Crowns is built on care, confidence and representation. Curly Crowns continues to demonstrate how locally developed innovation can respond directly to community needs while building a sustainable, growing business.

The alignment of the city’s administrative machinery behind the Tshwane Economic Revitalisation Strategy (TERS) is central to fast-tracking catalytic projects. A key component of this delivery mechanism is the the InvestSA One-Stop Shop (OSS) Tshwane satellite office, hosted at TEDA.

By centralising approvals and removing obstructions, the OSS reduces delays and ensures priority investments move efficiently from commitment to implementation. This streamlined approach makes it easier for businesses to invest and facilitates the creation of sustainable jobs within the City of Tshwane.

2025 Tshwane Women in Business Awards (TWIBA) Agro-Processing winner, Anelly Mokwena of Setjhoka Farming, recently welcomed us on her farm, giving us first-hand experience of her growing farming operation.

Specialising in the production of yellow and white maise, Setjhoka Farming operates across 650 hectares, with 500 hectares dedicated to grain production and 150 hectares used for grazing Boran cattle. With an expected average yield of 2,000 tons of maise supplied to Goldridge Milling, the operation continues to position itself as a leading example of large-scale commercial farming and livestock management.

Supported by a growing fleet that includes tractors, reapers and boom sprayers, the business remains focused on increasing production, expanding into export markets, and investing in equipment that will improve efficiency and productivity. Beyond agriculture, Setjhoka Farming is also committed to creating employment opportunities for disadvantaged members of the local community while contributing meaningfully to food production and economic growth.
