The Department of Small Business Development, the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA), and Merafong City Local Municipality successfully implemented the Informal Micro Enterprises Development Programme (IMEDP).

The programme seeks to empower informal traders with essential business skills, equipment and machinery to strengthen their enterprises, improve productivity and promote sustainable livelihoods.

A total of 56 beneficiaries from various informal business sectors were selected, with each receiving business equipment and machinery valued between R15,000 and R20,000.

The official handover was led by the MMC responsible for Local Economic Development, Tourism and Rural Development, Cllr Jeff Tibane.

This initiative demonstrates our collective commitment to supporting township and informal economies, creating opportunities and ensuring that local entrepreneurs become active participants in Merafong’s economic growth.

Yesterday, the Executive Mayor, Cllr Nozuko Best and MMC Segakweng joined the Black Ladies Organisation at its 2nd Annual Women in Business Awards and Gala Dinner, an inspiring celebration of remarkable women in business, leadership and community development.

The Executive Mayor honoured the Black Ladies Organisation with the Icon of Impact Award in recognition of its leadership in empowering women and building legacies for future generations.

Women are not competitors; we complement and strengthen one another. As we celebrate women’s achievements, we must also commit ourselves to opening doors, creating opportunities and ensuring that women occupy the tables where important decisions are made.

Together, we are building empowered women, stronger communities and a lasting legacy. ✨

The community of Merafong came out in great numbers for the Integrated Provincial Safety and Service Delivery Imbizo at Khutsong Stadium.

The turnout demonstrates that our people are ready to engage directly with government, raise their concerns and participate in building safer communities and improving service delivery.

Tomorrow, 03 September 2026, we welcome the Gauteng Provincial Government, led by Premier Panyaza Lesufi, to Khutsong Stadium, Merafong City, for the Integrated Provincial Safety and Service Delivery Imbizo.

This important engagement brings government closer to the people, creating a platform to address community safety, service delivery challenges and infrastructure concerns, while strengthening accountability and coordinated action across all spheres of government.

The Office of the Executive Mayor, Cllr Nozuko Best, in collaboration with Merafong Women Umanyano, is currently gathered in prayer at the Carletonville Civic Centre.

Today, women from across Merafong City stand together in faith, praying for peace and safety in our communities, social healing, unity, our families, our youth, and peaceful elections.

As women, we recognise the power of prayer and the responsibility we carry in building stronger and safer communities.

As we conclude our Mayoral Games 2026, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to all the teams that participated, our dedicated officials and organisers, our sponsors (Corobrik, Harmony Gold, DRD Gold, Dunlop and Engine Garage), and partners (Merafong Sports Confederation and Local Football Association) the community of Merafong City for coming out in support, and most importantly, our scouts (Kaizer Chiefs, Sundowns and Siwelele) who took the time to identify and observe the incredible talent displayed by our young people.
