The Western Cape Government Department of Local Government concluded its 2026 Women’s Month programme with a Women’s Month Conference on 28 August at 7 Wale Street, Cape Town.
Organised by the Department’s Cultural Interim Committee, the conference brought women together for a day of learning, reflection, networking and celebration.
It formed part of a four-week programme that included Coffee Café Conversations, creating opportunities for women to engage on issues affecting them in the workplace and beyond.
Held under the theme “Women in Local Government”, the conference explored topics including women in leadership, workplace wellbeing, financial wellness, pursuing dreams, women empowering women and taking action against gender-based violence and femicide.
Head of Department Mr Graham Paulse encouraged women to believe in themselves, invest in their abilities and have a clear vision for their lives.
The programme featured contributions from Dr Althea Whitaker, Ms Abigail Jacobs-Williams, Employee Health and Wellness, Ms Genevieve Fourie of Sanlam, Dr Shehaam Johnstone, author and Women at Heart Award winner Ms Theola Langenhoven, and Ms Mandie Richards of CPUT.
The conference also commemorated the 70th anniversary of the historic 1956 Women’s March, celebrating the courage of women who stood for freedom, equality and justice.
The event ended with a powerful reminder that Women’s Month may be over, but the conversation and commitment to empowering women must continue.
