On International Literacy Day, LIASA celebrates literacy as a cornerstone of an informed, empowered and inclusive nation.
As libraries and information services champion access to knowledge, we recognise the vital role of literacy in nurturing a culture of reading, lifelong learning and informed citizenship. When people can access, understand, evaluate and use information, they are better equipped to learn, participate and contribute to the development of their communities and country.
This is at the heart of what LIASA stands for: promoting freedom of access to information, championing reading and lifelong learning, and contributing to the growth and development of South Africa through excellence in librarianship.
