A smartphone is more than just a device โ€” it's a gateway to independence.

At Cape Town Society for the Blind, blind and visually impaired youth are developing essential digital skills that empower them to communicate independently, access information, navigate technology, and confidently use apps such as WhatsApp in their daily lives.

Through accessible technology and training, barriers are being broken and opportunities are being created.

This Youth Month, we celebrate the power of digital inclusion and the young people building brighter, more independent futures. ๐Ÿ“ฑโœจ

Today, we celebrate the fathers, grandfathers, father figures, and caregivers who provide love, guidance, strength, and support every day.

At Cape Town Society for the Blind, we honour the incredible dads in our community who inspire resilience, independence, and hope. Thank you for the difference you make in the lives of your families and those around you.

Wishing all fathers a happy and blessed Father's Day. ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒŸ From Student to Professional ๐ŸŒŸ

This Youth Month, we celebrate the inspiring journey of Jolene Kriel, a former Cape Town Society for the Blind student who is now completing her internship in our Low Vision Clinic.

After achieving top student results in ICDL in 2025, Jolene has continued to demonstrate that determination, the right support, and accessible opportunities can unlock incredible potential. Today, she confidently carries out administrative duties independently using her remaining vision and assistive technology.

Her story is a powerful reminder that disability does not define ability. It is about creating opportunities, breaking barriers, and empowering young people to reach their full potential.

We are incredibly proud of Jolene and all the young people who continue to inspire us every day.

Today, we celebrate Youth Day by celebrating action, resilience, and opportunity.

At the Cape Town Society for the Blind, we honour the blind and visually impaired young people who are learning digital skills, building independence, mastering mobility, developing workplace readiness, creating with their hands, and shaping their own futures.

Youth is more than a stage of lifeโ€”it is a force for change. Together, we are creating a future that is Beyond Sight. Beyond Limits.

Happy Youth Day! ๐Ÿ’™

โค๏ธ๐Ÿฒ Warming hearts on a cold Cape Town day!

On their final day with us, our wonderful Norwegian students joined the staff of the Cape Town Society for the Blind to prepare delicious homemade soup for our students and Small Business Units (SBUs).

It was more than just a warm mealโ€”it was a beautiful act of kindness, teamwork, and community. As we say goodbye, we are grateful for the friendships made, the memories shared, and the positive impact they have had during their time with us.

Thank you for your compassion, dedication, and for leaving a little extra warmth behind. Safe travels, and we hope to welcome you back again someday! ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’ป Digital independence starts with opportunity.

At the Cape Town Society for the Blind, our ICDL and Computer Training Programme is empowering blind and visually impaired youth with the digital skills they need to thrive in today's world.

From mastering keyboard skills and screen readers to building confidence in computer literacy, our students are gaining the tools to access education, employment, and greater independence.

Technology should be accessible to everyoneโ€”because when barriers are removed, possibilities are endless.

Creating awareness, building connections, and making a difference. ๐Ÿ’™

Cape Town Society for the Blind recently visited Matthew Goniwe Clinic in Khayelitsha to engage with patients and raise awareness about the services and support we provide to people who are visually impaired and blind.

We are grateful for the warm welcome and support from the staff at the clinic, who allowed us to share our mission and help educate the community about visual impairment, accessibility, and the resources available through our organisation.

Together, we can create a more inclusive society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

If you would like us to visit your organisation, clinic, school, or community to conduct an awareness session, please contact us on 021 448 4302.
