Re: In Response to Tensions Between Bellville SRC Structure.

We have observed with growing concern the emerging and aggravating rifts within the Bellville SRC. The recent statement remarks from the chairperson regarding the campus bash has sparked discontent and evidently drawn clear lines of division against the PASMA-led SRC. The fallout from these remarks has not only strained the operational synergy between both factions but has also exposed vulnerabilities that could be exploited by the university management to the detriment of student governance at large.

Furthermore, it has also come to our attention that the PASMA-led SRC, assisted by its organizational base, made significant efforts to organise this event only to have their initiative subsequently hijacked and rebranded by the EFFSC and their SRC. This act of appropriation has caused the PASMA-led SRC to withdraw, leaving the chairperson to shoulder the responsibility of fulfilling his organizational mandate amidst a backdrop of fractured trust within their SRC.

As a progressive forward movement, we take this opportunity to condemn in the strongest terms such behavior from a co-governed structure. We believe that when internal conflicts are allowed to overshadow the collective mandate, it is the students that ultimately bear the brunt of the discord.

With that being said, we urge both factions to prioritize the interests of the students and re-establish a cooperative front to prevent further deterioration of SRC integrity and effectiveness.

Signed,
Pan-Africanist Youth Congress

Re: Commander’s Afternoon.

CPUT appears to be undergoing a troubling transformation, resembling more an old-age home than a dynamic educational institution. By consistently placing elderly, emotionally fragile individuals in key management roles, the university is undermining its own future. These appointees, far removed from the pulse of contemporary academic and administrative innovation, are not only failing to lead but are actively contributing to the downfall of the divisions they oversee.

The Division of Student Affairs, in particular, has been thrust into a state of siege under the direction of an aged leader who lacks the decisiveness and modern knowledge required to manage such a critical sector effectively. This decay in leadership is not just a reflection of personal inadequacy but also of a broader institutional failure to recognize and address the urgent need for youthful, dynamic, and informed leadership that can navigate the complexities of today’s educational landscape.

CPUT’s management must urgently reevaluate its approach to leadership appointments, lest it continues on this path to irrelevance and academic stagnation. The institution's future depends on a leadership that is not shackled by the outdated perspectives and emotional fragility of a bygone era.

Revolutionary Greeting.

RE: A Call for Justice and Reform at Our University.

As PAYCO today we stand in solidarity to challenge the status quo that has perpetuated inequity, inefficiency, and injustice within our university. The time for passive acceptance has ended. We demand bold, transformative changes to address the systemic issues that hinder our potential and well-being.

The current state of NSFAS is failing us. Delays, mismanagement, and bureaucratic inefficiencies are denying countless students the financial support they need to pursue their education. We demand a complete overhaul of the financial aid system to ensure timely, transparent, and equitable disbursement of funds. No student should have to choose between their education and basic survival. Should push comes to shove, we will welcome the new ED Finance with revolutionary greetings.

The university administration must be held accountable for its actions. Decisions made behind closed doors, without student input, undermine our trust and our future. We call for greater transparency, democratic decision-making processes, and meaningful student representation at all levels of governance. Our voices must be heard and respected.

The state of student residences is deplorable. Inadequate maintenance, and unsafe living conditions are unacceptable. We demand immediate improvements to our living environments, including sufficient housing, regular upkeep, and the assurance of safety and dignity for all residents. Our homes should reflect the respect we deserve.

We will not stand idly by as our education and futures are compromised. We are prepared to mobilize, to protest, and to demand the changes that are long overdue. This is our university, and we will fight for a system that values and supports every student.

The revolution begins now. Together, we will create a university that upholds justice, equity, and excellence for Africa.

Signed,
