Event: An Orange Level 8 warning for disruptive heavy rainfall and gale-force winds remains in effect until Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Significant flooding of roads, low-lying areas, and informal settlements has already occurred. Strong to damaging winds, with gusts exceeding 80 km/h, may cause flying debris and structural damage. Rough seas and dangerous coastal conditions are also expected. Major disruptions to road traffic, transportation services, and both domestic and international flights through Cape Town International Airport are possible. Conditions may deteriorate further as the current cold front continues.

The U.S. Consulate General Cape Town has suspended operations for the remainder of today. Consular appointments are expected to proceed as scheduled tomorrow, though weather-related delays are possible. Any consular appointments missed due to weather conditions will be accommodated at a later date.
