NCC-Group is seeking a Squad Leader for a fixed-term contract across various operational bases in the Western Cape. This role is focused on leading a specialised ground crew of firefighters on and off the fire line, ensuring the delivery of a professional wildland firefighting service.
In this role, you will ensure crew readiness and resource availability, establish chains of command, and oversee assigned personnel's safety, welfare, and performance. You will gather situational information, coordinate tactical operations with adjoining resources, manage demobilisation, and ensure all HR policies and project documentation are properly maintained.
What we’re looking for:
- Certifications & Training: ICS 100, ICS 200, RT130 Wildland Fire Safety Training Annual Refresher, and Helitack Training.
- Experience: Satisfactory past performance as a Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1).
- Physical Fitness & Health: High level of fitness and good health. Candidates must pass the arduous physical test (Pack test: 4.8 km walk with a 20 kg pack in under 45 minutes) and hold police clearance.
- Driving & Mobility: Valid South African Driver's License with a Public Driving Permit (PrDP). Must be highly mobile for deployment across the country and internationally, and reside close to operational areas.
Requirements: Available for standby shifts and fully aligned with NCC Group’s Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Substance Use Policy.
Skills: Strong leadership, relationship-building, and basic Microsoft Office administrative skills, with the flexibility to adapt quickly under high-pressure, fast-changing conditions.
