In the Western Cape, invasive plants like pines, gums, and wattles are a major veldfire threat.

⚠️ Fires in invasive vegetation can burn up to 10x hotter than natural fynbos.

WHY IT MATTERS:
🔹Faster, hotter, more destructive fires
🔹Greater risk to homes and communities

THE LAW:
Landowners are legally required to clear invasive species under NEMBA - (National Environmental Management: Biodiversity Act (Act 10 of 2004).

IF YOU DON’T COMPLY:
🔹Risk of fines or legal action
🔹You may be liable if a fire spreads from your property

In the Western Cape, strong winds can turn small fires into fast-moving veldfires.

What increases the danger?
➡️ Overgrown invasive vegetation
➡️ Dry, unmanaged fuel loads
➡️ No defensible space

🔥 Wind-driven fires spread faster, burn hotter, and are harder to control.
