NUPSAW UPDATE - 10 June 2026
THEY TRIED TO REMOVE US. THE COURT RESTORED US.
Comrades,
When Parliament withdrew NUPSAW’s organisational rights with immediate effect, many believed this was the end of our union in Parliament.
Some celebrated.
Some laughed.
Some intimidated our members.
Some said NUPSAW was finished.
But they were wrong.
NUPSAW stood its ground.
NUPSAW went to court.
And the Labour Court has ordered Parliament to restore and maintain NUPSAW’s organisational rights pending the final determination of the CCMA dispute.
We received the court judgment in the early hours of this morning.
This means that the attempt to remove NUPSAW from Parliament has been stopped.
Comrades, this is not the final victory — but it is a victory.
It is proof that when workers stand together, organise and fight through principled and lawful means, they can defend their rights.
As Parliament marks 30 years of South Africa’s constitutional democracy, this moment reminds us that the Constitution must not only be celebrated in speeches and commemorations. Its values must be lived every day.
The Constitution guarantees workers the right to freedom of association and the right to choose the union of their choice.
These rights were hard won through struggle. They cannot be taken away through intimidation, exclusion or unilateral action.
This judgment is therefore more than a legal milestone. It is a reminder that the democratic gains of 1994 must be defended continuously by organised workers.
Let this moment renew our confidence.
Let us remain disciplined.
Let us remain united.
Let us continue to recruit, organise and build NUPSAW.
The struggle continues.
NUPSAW is still standing.
NUPSAW is still organising.
NUPSAW is still fighting.
