Congratulations to the DA’s Francine Higham on her election as Councillor for Ward 77. I’m honoured to have placed second amongst a big field of candidates.

In ward 77, more than 1 in 20 voters supported GOOD’s principles of justice. Thank you for belief that Cape Town should be a place that works - for everyone.

A 2 hours long debate on Cape Town, but excellent and (mostly) well informed discussion on:
- housing
- homelessness
- jobs and the economy
- call to prayer
- water and electricity prices.

Decent housing remains a serious concern for poor and working-class communities in Cape Town. The delivery of affordable housing has been a tedious process.

Local Capetonians, working with GOOD’s candidate for ward 54 in Cape Town, Carlos Mesquita, have begun to provide shelter housing for the homeless themselves.

“various people, fed up with what they perceive as the municipality’s lack of action, have co-operated, raised money, and found accommodation for the homeless people …”

These initiatives have been achieved without any assistance from the City of Cape Town and had to be funded by local ratepayer residents themselves.
