🇧🇪 🇿🇦 🇳🇦 Economic diplomacy remains a core task of the Belgian Consulate General in Cape Town. Together with the Trade & Economic Commissioners of Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels in Johannesburg, we continue supporting Belgian businesses across western South Africa and Namibia.
📸 A look back at some key recent events:
🏥 Consul General Nicolas Fierens Gevaert hosted a working lunch at the Belgian residence alongside a University of Cape Town (UCT) seminar on proton therapy, held with Belgian company IBA Proton Therapy. Ambassador Paul Jansen joined the event organized with Wallonia in South Africa - AWEX, showcasing Belgian healthcare innovation and its potential role in shaping cancer care across Africa.
💉 The Consul General also attended the launch of Biovac's expanded vaccine facility and Afrigen Biologics GMP certification for its mRNA facility in Cape Town. Both companies rely on technology from Belgian biotech Quantoom Biosciences and play a key role in strengthening African health security through the mRNA Technology Transfer Programme with financial support from the European Union and some EU Member States like Belgium.
🔋 While in Belgium, the Consul General together with Belgian development agency Enabel visited COOSHA Impact Ventures in Leuven, developer of renewable hydrogen cookstoves and refrigeradores now piloted in Namibia with Kaoko Green Energy Solutions — another example of Belgian innovation supporting sustainable development in the region.
