🇧🇪 🇿🇦 🇳🇦 Economic diplomacy remains a core task of the Belgian Consulate General in Cape Town. Together with the Trade & Economic Commissioners of Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels in Johannesburg, we continue supporting Belgian businesses across western South Africa and Namibia.

📸 A look back at some key recent events:

🏥 Consul General Nicolas Fierens Gevaert hosted a working lunch at the Belgian residence alongside a University of Cape Town (UCT) seminar on proton therapy, held with Belgian company IBA Proton Therapy. Ambassador Paul Jansen joined the event organized with Wallonia in South Africa - AWEX, showcasing Belgian healthcare innovation and its potential role in shaping cancer care across Africa.

💉 The Consul General also attended the launch of Biovac's expanded vaccine facility and Afrigen Biologics GMP certification for its mRNA facility in Cape Town. Both companies rely on technology from Belgian biotech Quantoom Biosciences and play a key role in strengthening African health security through the mRNA Technology Transfer Programme with financial support from the European Union and some EU Member States like Belgium.

🔋 While in Belgium, the Consul General together with Belgian development agency Enabel visited COOSHA Impact Ventures in Leuven, developer of renewable hydrogen cookstoves and refrigeradores now piloted in Namibia with Kaoko Green Energy Solutions — another example of Belgian innovation supporting sustainable development in the region.

✨ Stay tuned for further updates!

Belgian National Day in Cape Town! 🇧🇪

On 21 July, together with Be Social - the informal network of Belgians and friends of Belgium in the Cape - the Consulate General of Belgium had the pleasure of hosting and celebrating Belgian National Day at Woodstock Brewery in Cape Town🍻. Many fellow Belgians and friends of Belgium joined and enjoyed our favorite traditional Belgian food. 🎶🍟🍺

Belgium’s National Day commemorates the taking of the oath of our first king, Leopold I, on 21 July 1831 following Belgium’s independence which was declared on 4 October 1830. 👑

This informal event organized for the Belgian community and friends of Belgium was an excellent occasion for Consul General Nicolas Fierens Gevers to underline that Belgium continues to proudly fly its colours in Cape Town and the surrounding region across the economic, academic, cultural and gastronomic spheres! 🇧🇪🫱🏼‍🫲🏽🇿🇦

Dankje- Merci- Danke, to all of you who celebrated and honored our heritage on this special day. We hope to see you again soon, and as we say in Belgium: tot ziens, à bientôt, bis bald! 🖤💛❤️

Happy Belgian National Day! 🇧🇪

Today, we celebrate the anniversary of 21 July 1831, when Leopold I took the constitutional oath as the first King of the Belgians, laying the foundations of modern Belgium. 👑

Across the country, Belgians mark this special day with official ceremonies, military and civilian parades, concerts, community celebrations, and spectacular fireworks. 🎶🎆

Here in Cape Town, we are proud to celebrate our National Day together with the Belgian community. 🇧🇪🇿🇦

Leve België! 🖤
Vive la Belgique ! 💛
Es lebe Belgien! ❤️
