EFFYC STATEMENT ON THE INTRODUCTION OF APPLICATION FEE
Revolutionary Greetings,
We hope that this statement finds you in good spirits as we are in the struggle of fighting to attain the free, decolonized, and well resourced education that is intertwined with the economic freedom in our lifetime
The EFFYC has noted with deep concern and frustration the unjust decision that has been taken by the registrar without any consultations with the relevant offices for the implementation of the application fee. This decision does not just exclude prospective students but closes doors for students born from the rural marginalised outscurts of this country, especially in the Eastern Cape.
The EFFYC totally rejects this decision by the registrar as this university is one of the universities that attracts the poor and working classes. Therefore, we can not let our brothers and sisters be subjected to such We are in a struggle to attain economic freedom that is intertwined with free-quality, well resourced education, with the introduction of application fee in Walter Sisulu. This takes us ten steps back in this struggle. Subsediary to that, this application fee will not help the financial standing of the university but instead will lessen the number of applications we receive each year. We need to remain the university of choice.
In this regard, the EFFYC in Walter Sisulu demands that the university scrap this application fee money scheme off, while on that, the university must start proper consultation with all stakeholders.
Regards
EFFYC Walter Sisulu
