Residents of Tikwana Urged to Stay Indoors and Avoid Flooded Streets
Tswelopele Local Municipality urges residents of Tikwana, Hoopstad, to stay indoors today. Last night’s storm left several streets flooded. Water levels remain high in low-lying areas.
Municipal disaster management unit is currently on site.
We ask you to take these steps to stay safe:
- Stay inside and keep children away from flooded streets
- Do not walk or drive through flood water. 15cm of moving water can knock you down
- Move electrical appliances to higher ground and switch off power where water entered the house
- Boil drinking water until officials confirm supply is safe
- Report blocked drains, fallen power lines, and damaged houses to the municipal call centre
Do not try to cross the bridge near the sports ground and the road past the clinic. Both carry fast water.
We will issue an update at 16:00 today.
