The African Christian Democratic Party in the Breede Valley has voiced considerable concern regarding the discontent within the Worcester church community and surrounding areas concerning the Nekkies Easter Music Festival and the Easter market, which are annual events held during the special weekend. Certain church leaders and community members have articulated their dissatisfaction and raised concerns about these two events. A sense of divide and mixed reactions exists regarding the large event at Nekkies and the traditional market, which has been held for many years. There is also discontent regarding the decision-making process for traditional activities that have benefited the congregations and the broader local community.
The ACDP Councillor for the Breede Valley Region, Councillor Tony Manuel, invites those interested to submit their grievances in order that a peaceful solution can be reached along with the municipality and the decision-making body, to work together for the benefit of our community. The Constitution of South Africa on religious freedom Chapter 2 states that everyone has the right to freedom of religion, belief and opinion. Section 9, the equality clause, prohibits unfair discrimination, on various grounds including religion.
