Artificial Intelligence is rapidly reshaping governance, information ecosystems and the protection of fundamental rights.

The evolving global conversation about AI governance requires meaningful African participation to help shape frameworks that are rights-based, inclusive and responsive to African realities.

Against this backdrop, the Information Regulator’s Senior Manager responsible for Policy Analysis and Research, Ms Hlengiwe Shelembe, has today joined leading scholars and policy experts as a panellist in African-led Visions of an AI Bill of Human Rights at the Centre for Human Rights.

The discussion formed part of the international launch of Professor Yuval Shany’s white paper on the feasibility of an international AI bill of human rights, informed by global consultations that included African regional engagements.

As AI increasingly shapes governance, decision-making and the processing of personal information, the Information Regulator continues to contribute to policy discussions that advance responsible, transparent and human rights-centered AI governance across Africa and beyond.
