COMMUNITY SAFETY CAMPAIGN | KUNOBUSWANA, CENTANE

On 26 May 2026, the Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety, through its Amathole District Office, hosted a Crime Awareness Campaign at Ngqwarha Village in KuNobuswana, Centane, under the theme: “Musa Ukuthula Kusonakala.”

Speaking during the programme, Amathole District Manager, Ms Miranda Sinqoto, encouraged communities to actively participate in the fight against crime and to work together to restore peace and stability.

The engagement brought together government departments, law enforcement agencies, traditional leaders, educators, and community stakeholders to address faction fights, alcohol and drug abuse, gender-based violence, and other crime related challenges affecting the area.

The Department remains committed to strengthening community police relations and promoting active community participation in crime prevention initiatives.

Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety Conducts Departmental Performance Review Session

The Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety convened a Departmental Performance Review Session today at the Mandla Makhuphula Training Institute in Stirling, kuGompo City.
The session was chaired by the Acting Head of Department, Ms Nwabisa Libala. It served as a platform to assess, track, and reflect on the Department’s progress in delivering on its mandate and advancing its strategic objectives.

All departmental managers were in attendance, underscoring the Department’s collective commitment to accountability, strengthened performance management, and continuous improvement in service delivery.

MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Xolile Nqatha, earlier today visited Mgwali Village , Bholo, Stutterheim, in the Amathole District, where the MEC led a successful Community Outreach Programme through the Policing Accountability Engagement under the theme: “Musa ukuthula kusonakala.”

The MEC was joined by Amahlathi Local Municipality Councillors and members of the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security (JCPS) Cluster, including the South African Police Service (SAPS), Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), Department of Home Affairs, Department of Health, Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), South African Revenue Service (SARS), Department of Transport, Department of Human Settlements, Department of Agriculture, Department of Employment and Labour, South African Social Security Agency (SASSA), Eastern Cape Liquor Board, Eskom, and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

Services on wheels were also available on site, including:
• Department of Home Affairs assisting with the issuing of birth certificates and ID documents
• Department of Health, with nurses and doctors providing on-site medical services
• Department of Transport road safety stalls
• Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) stalls
As part of the outreach programme, the MEC also handed over 50 two-way radios, 50 blankets, 50 bicycles, sanitary towels, and school bags to members of the community.

The programme provided communities with a platform to raise and address issues related to crime, safety, and policing within the Bholo Policing Precinct, while also ensuring direct access to essential government services.

ACCOUNTABILITY ENGAGEMENT : Transport and Community Safety , MEC Xolile Nqatha has arrived at Mgwali , Bholo in the Amathole District, where he will lead a Community Outreach Programme through the Policing Accountability Engagement.

The MEC is accompanied by Councillors , members of the JCPS cluster, IPID , SAPS , Home Affairs, Health Department, Cogta, SARS , Transport , Human Settlements, Eskom , Agriculture, Employment and Labour , Liqour Board and SASSA.

The aim of the programme is to provide communities with a platform to raise and address issues related to crime, safety, and policing within Bholo Policing Precint.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH THROUGH POLICING ACCOUNTABILITY ENGAGEMENT | BHOLO (STUTTERHEIM)

Tomorrow, 14 May 2026, the Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety, through its Amathole District Office, will host a Community Outreach Programme in Bholo (Stutterheim) led by MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Hon. Xolile Nqatha, under the theme: “Musa Ukuthula Kusonakala.”

The engagement aims to strengthen policing accountability, promote community safety, and encourage active public participation in crime prevention initiatives. The programme will also feature Services on Wheels, where stakeholders within the Criminal Justice System and government departments will provide integrated services and information directly to the community.

Community members are encouraged to attend and participate.

Today, 12 May 2026, the Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety is participating in the commemoration of the 191st Anniversary of King Hintsa at King Hintsa TVET College, located at 218 Mthatha Road, Butterworth, Mnquma Local Municipality in the Amathole District, led by Deputy President Paul Mashatile.

The event, coordinated by the Office of the Premier, has brought together various government departments and stakeholders to honour the legacy and historical significance of King Hintsa kaKhawuta.

As part of the programme, the Department of Community Safety has established a promotional exhibition stall where officials are engaging with community members and sharing information on departmental programmes and services aimed at promoting safety, accountability, crime prevention, and community well-being.

Members of the public are encouraged to visit the exhibition area, interact with officials, and learn more about initiatives focused on building safer and more resilient communities.

NOW UNDERWAY | POLICING ACCOUNTABILITY ENGAGEMENT

The Eastern Cape Department of Community Safety in the Joe Gqabi District is currently hosting a Policing Accountability Engagement at Qhoboshane Village Sharing Shed today, 08 May 2026. The engagement commenced at 10h00 as part of the Department’s constitutional mandate to promote democratic accountability, transparency, and stronger community-police relations within the South African Police Service (SAPS).

The engagement brings together various stakeholders, including the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Department of Social Development, SAPS Station Management from Palmietfontein, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), Community Policing Forum (CPF), local municipality representatives, traditional leadership, and community members.

Discussions are focused on critical issues affecting communities, including substance abuse, gender-based violence, assaults, and murder cases, with the aim of strengthening collaboration and building safer communities.
