FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The 7th Provincial Committee of the Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) in the Eastern Cape convened for its scheduled plenary session from the 25th - 26th of April 2026. The meeting was also an induction, which is a process that served as the foundational pillar of the plenary, ensuring that all members of the 7th Provincial Committee were grounded in the ideological and administrative responsibilities required of the vanguard. By prioritizing this induction, the Committee sought to align every cadre with the YCLSA’s organizational discipline, constitutional mandate, and the specific strategic objectives of the Eastern Cape province. This essential first step moved beyond mere orientation; it fostered a unified political consciousness, ensuring that subsequent deliberations on socio-economic issues were approached with the necessary analytical rigor and a shared commitment to the revolutionary tasks at hand. This critical gathering of the progressive youth vanguard took place against the backdrop of a deepening systemic crisis that continues to disproportionately impact the working-class youth of our province.
Guided by the principles of Marxism-Leninism, the Provincial Committee engaged in rigorous, robust, and self-critical deliberations regarding the material conditions of the youth in the Eastern Cape.

POLITICAL

The PC met to dissect and develop decisive interventions against a tide of socio-economic catastrophes that threaten the future of our generation.
Central to the collective’s agenda were the following structural and social contradictions by addressing the alarming levels of joblessness that have left many graduates and young workers in a state of permanent precarity. Also the Provincial Committee analysed the proliferation of alcohol and drug abuse as symptomatic of a deeper social despair. We also reaffirm our militant stance against the patriarchy and the ongoing violence directed at women and children within our communities. Evaluating the intersectional causes of high pregnancy rates among the school-going youth and the subsequent barriers to education. Confronting the reality of hunger in a province with vast, underutilized agricultural potential.

The meeting was also privileged to receive a political input from the SACP 1st Deputy Provincial Secretary Comrade Rakaibe. The YCLSA Eastern Cape remains unshaken by recent ANC NEC resolutions regarding the SACP’s move to contest state power. The Provincial Committee echoes the supports the call that no SACP member or deployee should sign any individual letters or documents regarding their status or contestation. Such matters must be handed directly to the SACP Provincial Secretariat Office so they can be addressed as a collective unit. We will not be atomized; we will respond as a disciplined Red Bloc. The 7th Provincial Committee further unequivocally affirms its support for the SACP’s decision to contest the 2026 Local Government Elections. We declare today that the Young Red Brigades will be at the forefront of this battle. We are ready to mobilize in every ward, every township, and every village to ensure a decisive victory for the SACP, which is the only true vanguard of the working class.

The current global political epoch, characterized by shifting geopolitical alliances and heightened international volatility, continues to place immense strain on South Africa’s developing economy. As global supply chains face disruption and inflationary pressures mount, the domestic economy remains vulnerable to external shocks that stifle growth and exacerbate the cost of living. This economic instability is felt most acutely by the young people of the Eastern Cape, who are trapped at the intersection of soaring unemployment and systemic underdevelopment. In a province already burdened by historical neglect, the youth face a shrinking job market and diminishing educational opportunities, turning what should be a period of potential into a struggle for basic survival. This geopolitical turbulence does not merely reflect on a balance sheet; it manifests as a direct assault on the aspirations and livelihoods of the working-class youth in our province.

ORGANISATIONAL

To ensure the day-to-day administrative and political efficiency of the organization, the PC successfully elected five members to the Provincial Working Committee (PWC), which includes the strategic appointment of the Provincial Spokesperson. These comrades will be working with Office Bearing Members of the Provincial Committee in ensuring that the Organisation’s mandate remains visible and vibrant between plenary sessions. Furthermore, the Provincial Committee has established a total of nine commissions designed to provide technical and political support to the Provincial Committee. These commissions will be focusing on thematic areas ranging from socio economic transformation to state power to ensure that all mandatory duties are met with expert precision.

The meeting further conducted a rigorous and honest assessment of the state of our Districts across the province. Recognizing that a "one-size-fits-all" strategy is a recipe for failure, the Provincial Committee has deployed its members to all Districts with a one of the mandates being to identify and implement unique, district-specific strategies to revive organizational life. We aim to move away from remote leadership to a "hands-on" approach that assists Districts in building sustainable branches and localized campaigns.

INTERNATIONAL SOLIDARITY

The YCLSA Eastern Cape notes with grave concern the heightening of global Imperialism. We believe the current global conjuncture demands a Left Block that is more solid and unified than ever before.
We reaffirm our unwavering solidarity with the peoples of Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba. We stand with every nation currently enduring the yoke of bourgeois oppression and imperialist sanctions. The struggle for socialism is internationalist in character, and we remain committed to the downfall of the global capitalist hegemony.
