BOKO Foundation is an independent organisation aiming at empowering and developing a girl child, a boy child and the youth. It is our desire to spear head the idea of a generation that can partake in the economy of its country, we wish to be the key that unlocks opportunities in existing sectors to better the lives of our communities. Greater than all, in a country where unemployment seems to have settled, we hope to create firm industries and employment opportunities through our strategies and 5 upcoming projects.
Boko foundation is the founder of the CARTOONS BUFFET EDUCATION PROJECT that is permitted to implement this fun project in all Thabo Mofutsanyane District (TMD) Primary Schools; 390 in total. From Private to Public schools and FARM SCHOOLS. Not only are we hoping to make education fun, we desire to make it more effective. Life has awarded us an opportunity to teach and we do not take it lightly. We have taken it upon ourselves to work closely with the Department Of Education in improving education for kids from all walks of life and ensuring learning is effective, we have grabbed with both hands the opportunity to assist teachers around TMD in making teaching a fun activity.
We are certain this is a strategy the Education Foundation Phase needs, cartoons are a very powerful tool more especially considering the fact that children can relate to cartoons. Through cartoons songs and displays on TV, many children have been exposed to the language English, now what more when the very characters they only see on TV are in the same yard as them.
After Market Research and going through studies on the effect cartoons have on children, we came to the realization that when cartoons are properly channeled:
1. They can improve children’s vocabulary
2. They can improve children’s ability to concentrate
3. They can intrigue children’s creativity
4. They can broaden children’s thinking
The main focus of the project is currently the subject “English” better known as the language of teaching hence we are first tackling English. It is the basic in both teaching and learning, to even suggest a child lacks in a particular subject you need to have dealt with “English” the very language used in the textbooks they use in classes. To even say a child lacks in Mathematics, you need to ensure they understand the subject jargon [divide, multiply, add, subtract, mode, medium & etc] which all boils down to “English.” It is only when we have dealt with the basics that we can actually identify the struggles encountered in the education foundation phase. It is therefore the reason our first focus is “English.”
This project has three phases, briefly:
