Bula Monyako is an NGO affiliated to the NPO under the auspices of the Methodist Church of South Africa, based in Benoni, under the umbrella of the Benoni Central Methodist. We serve all sectors of the community irrespective of color creed or race. We offer services to orphaned and vulnerable children, the aged, people infected and affected by HIV/Aids, we do counseling, including trauma counselin
g, we run support groups for those who are infected and are on treatment. We also run a parallel service – VCT (Voluntary Counseling and Testing) Clinic offering pre and post counseling. Our VCT clinic runs by a nurse which we do not have the funds to pay her and we really need the services offered. All our Counselors, Caregivers and Expanded Public Works Program are fully trained and are accepted as such by the Department of Social Development. They conduct home visits to vulnerable homes and refer clients to relevant resources, assist with house chores, bath the frail patients in their own homes.
•Bula Monyako also have computer lesson which offer basic computer skills to those who are computer illiterate, school leaver and unemployed people twice a month. However we have only three working computers for a class, on hand we have more than fifty people on waiting list.
• Food gardens which are intended to empower and offer gardening skills to unemployed, infected and affected people, in order to sustain them.
•We assist homeless people by finding them accommodation, repatriate them to their home lands, alcohol and substance abuse, assisting in rehabilitation, re enforcing support system and referrals to SANCA.
•We provide peer education at local schools and colleges on life skills which include interpersonal relationships, bridging the divide between the adolescents and the parents especially granny headed households. The programme was initiated because of concerns from educators about the lifestyle displayed by learners.
•Assisting with sorting out problems regarding id and birth certificates applications, providing financial support where necessary.
