Nepal Flood Recovery | Send Great Love to Nepal

Severe flooding in Nepal has left families facing damaged homes, disrupted livelihoods, and a long road toward recovery.

In times of disaster, distance does not separate caring hearts. Tzu Chi South Africa invites our friends, volunteers, and members of the community to come together in compassion and extend a helping hand to families affected by the floods.

Sometimes, a small light can open the door to a brighter future. 💡

For children growing up in communities without access to electricity, something as simple as reading a book or completing homework after sunset can become a daily challenge.

Through Tzu Chi’s long-term care and educational support in Tembisa, volunteers came to understand this need and helped install solar-powered LED lights for families living without electricity.

These lights do more than brighten a home. They give children more time and opportunity to learn, while bringing greater safety and comfort to their families.

Education can change a child’s future, and sometimes that journey begins with something as simple as having enough light to study.

In the cold of winter, warmth can come in many forms — a bag of food, warm clothing, a helping hand, or simply knowing that someone cares.

In Primrose, Johannesburg, Tzu Chi volunteers joined hands with local partners to bring winter support to 2,000 households. For families facing unemployment and difficult living conditions, this care represents more than meeting immediate needs — it brings reassurance, dignity, and hope during a challenging season.

Deepening Compassion, Passing On Hope

From April to May 2026, Tzu Chi volunteers across South Africa continued serving communities through institutional care, food and winter relief, youth leadership development, spiritual cultivation, and companionship for the elderly. From delivering essential supplies to vulnerable families and organisations, to nurturing young volunteers and commemorating Buddha Day, every activity reflected the spirit of gratitude, unity, and compassionate action.

Across Gauteng, Tembisa, and Ladysmith, volunteers worked alongside local communities to respond to immediate needs while building lasting relationships. Through cooperation, perseverance, and sincere companionship, each encounter became an opportunity to bring warmth, dignity, and hope—and to pass the spirit of service from one generation to the next.
